Conceptual Framework for Integrating Family Caregivers Into the Health Care Team: A Scoping Review

Minakshi Raj et al.

Summary: More than 80% of family care partners are responsible for coordinating care, but their inclusion in healthcare lacks recognition and standardization. Existing studies on care partner inclusion are limited and lack standardized definitions and measurements. Further efforts are needed to build healthcare teams inclusive of care partners, potentially requiring incentives for healthcare organizations and providers to practice inclusive team-building.

Understanding and Optimizing Family Caregiver Participation in Dyadic Research

Elliane Irani et al.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between recruitment conditions and patients' appraisal of dyadic engagement in heart failure management and caregiver participation. The results indicated that caregiver participation was influenced by recruitment strategy and the patients' primary responsibility for management. The findings highlight the importance of considering recruitment strategy and dyadic care type in the recruitment process.

Increasing engagement of Hispanics/Latinos in clinical trials on Alzheimer's disease and related dementias

David X. Marquez et al.

Summary: This article explores the barriers and facilitators to the participation of Latinos in clinical trials for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) and provides strategies to increase representation. The study found that bilingual information and education on ADRD and clinical trials need to be better disseminated, working with trusted local organizations can increase participation, and demonstrating altruism and informing participants of public health reasons can also increase Latino participation.

ClinicalTrials.gov as a Source of Information About Expanded Access Programs: Cohort Study

Jan Borysowski et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the completeness of information in the records of 228 expanded access programs registered with ClinicalTrials.gov and found missing data in many records, including detailed study descriptions, facility information, central contact person, and eligibility criteria. Some missing information was related to the registration year. Additionally, only 42.9% of expanded access studies performed in the United States from 2014 to 2019 were registered with ClinicalTrials.gov. The study suggested actions to fully exploit the register as a source of information about expanded access.

Facilitators, Challenges, and Messaging Strategies for Hispanic/Latino Populations Participating in Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias Clinical Research: A Literature Review

Holly A. Massett et al.

Summary: Hispanic and Latino populations are disproportionately affected by Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, yet they are underrepresented in clinical research. This lack of representation hinders the generalizability of study findings and treatments across diverse populations. Systemic challenges, lack of culturally relevant resources, and eligibility criteria that exclude Hispanics/Latinos are key barriers to their participation, but tailored outreach efforts and messaging strategies can improve engagement and interest.
