UTSA-280 metal-organic framework incorporated 6FDA-polyimide mixed-matrix membranes for ethylene/ethane separation

Xi Chen et al.

Summary: This study reports the effects of UTSA-280/6FDA-polyimide mixed-matrix membranes on C2H4/C2H6 separation. One type of membrane shows improved molecular sieving effect, resulting in increased C2H4 permeability and C2H4/C2H6 selectivity. The other type of membrane exhibits undesirable mixed-matrix effect with decreased C2H4 permeability.

Highly Ion-Permselective Porous Organic Cage Membranes with Hierarchical Channels

Tingting Xu et al.

Summary: This study reports porous organic cage membranes with hierarchical channels, which can selectively separate monovalent ions from divalent ions. The dual nanometer-sized cavities provide pathways for fast ion transport with high ion permselectivity. Molecular dynamics simulations illustrate the ion transport trajectory and offer guidelines for developing efficient ion separation membranes.

Zwitterion membranes for selective cation separation via electrodialysis

Noor Ul Afsar et al.

Summary: The study focused on the development of stable, cost-effective, and efficient zwitterion membranes (ZIMs) by incorporating amino isophthalic acid (AIPA) and fixed quaternized groups, leading to an improved Li+ flux for lithium extraction. Among the membranes tested, QAIPA-20 demonstrated the highest Li+ flux, showcasing its potential for lithium extraction, water desalination, and acid recovery.

A practical approach to measuring the ion-transport number of cation-exchange membranes: Effects of junction potential and analyte concentration

Jung-Eun Cha et al.

Summary: Ion-exchange membranes are crucial for high-performance electrochemical devices, with accurate ion-transport numbers determined from membrane potential differences. The study found that a sodium chloride concentration of at least 0.1 M with a 10-fold difference between high- and low-concentration solutions was optimal for accurate measurements. Stirring of the low-concentration solution was essential for minimizing the distortion of apparent potentials caused by diffusion boundary layers.

SO2 Capture Using Porous Organic Cages

Eva Martinez-Ahumada et al.

Summary: This study conducted the first experimental investigation on porous organic cages (POCs) for capturing SO2. It was found that a tertiary amine POC (6FT-RCC3) exhibited high and reversible SO2 capture, demonstrating excellent performance for at least 50 adsorption-desorption cycles. The adsorption behavior was analyzed using FTIR spectroscopy, C-13 CP-MAS NMR experiments, and computational calculations.
