Global and regional prevalence of multimorbidity in the adult population in community settings: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Saifur Rahman Chowdhury et al.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of multimorbidity among adults in different WHO geographic regions and found that South America had the highest prevalence. Additionally, the prevalence of multimorbidity was higher in females than males, and more than half of adults over 60 years old had multimorbid conditions. The global prevalence of multimorbidity has increased in the past two decades and remained stable in the recent decade. These findings suggest the need for targeted interventions for multimorbidity based on geographic regions and specific populations.

The changing health needs of the UK population

Martin McKee et al.

Summary: The changing demographics of the UK population necessitate a shift in healthcare needs, such as an increased focus on health promotion and disease prevention. Challenges such as an ageing population, rising multimorbidity, and persistent health inequalities require attention. Successes in oral health improvement exist, but inequalities in health outcomes persist. Healthcare systems must address these challenges, including mitigating the impact of wider health threats like the COVID-19 pandemic.
