Copper-Catalyzed C2-or C3-Thioglycosylation of Indoles with N-(Thioglycosides)succinimides: An Effective Strategy for the Total Synthesis of Isatindigotindolosides

Jie Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, a copper-catalyzed C2 or C3 thioglycosylation reaction was reported for the construction of indole alkaloid glucosides containing a 1-S-beta-glucopyranosyl unit. This reaction showed wide tolerance to functional groups and was suitable for various indoles and thioglycosides. It also provided a reliable method for late-stage modifications of natural products, such as gramine and melatonin. Total syntheses of isatindigotindolosides I and II were successfully accomplished using the C2-thioglycosylation reaction as a key step.

Copper-Catalyzed Regioselective Remote C-H Bond Chalcogenation of Aromatic Amine Derivatives without Using Any Large Template

Biprajit Paul et al.

Summary: A mild and convenient strategy has been developed for the para-selective chalcogenation of anilide scaffolds via C-H bond functionalization. This methodology utilizes a Cu(II) catalyst, which is abundant and inexpensive, and a commercially available aryl chalcogen source without the need for any complex directing template, exogenous ligand, acid/base, oxidant, or other additives. The key feature of this methodology is its impressive regioselectivity and its ability to tolerate a wide range of functional groups, resulting in good to excellent yields under aerobic conditions.

Cu-catalysed Chan-Lam synthesis of unsymmetrical aryl chalcogenides under aqueous micellar conditions

Nan Sun et al.

Summary: A mild Cu-catalysed Chan-Lam protocol has been developed for the synthesis of unsymmetrical aryl chalcogenides, including selenides and sulfides, in an aqueous micellar medium. The catalytic system consists of a CuBr catalyst, a water-soluble ligand, a surfactant, and air as the terminal oxidant. A diverse variety of diorganyl diselenides/disulfides could be coupled with various aryl, heteroaryl, and styryl boronic acids in water at ambient temperature to afford the corresponding aryl chalcogenide products in good to excellent yields. The aqueous phase can be recycled at least seven times by adding an additional half catalytic amount of CuBr during each subsequent cycle. UV-VIS spectral studies revealed the solubility of both hydrophobic diorganyl diselenides/disulfides and hydrophilic arylboronic acids in water with the help of the surfactant. Transmission electron microscopy studies showed the formation of nanomicelles under the reaction conditions.

Synthesis and Evaluation of Antioxidant, Anti-Edematogenic and Antinociceptive Properties of Selenium-Sulfa Compounds

Manoela Sacramento et al.

Summary: In this study, a new class of compounds was synthesized and evaluated for antioxidant, anti-edematogenic, and antinociceptive properties. Compound 3a showed promising antinociceptive effects in experimental models, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic agent for painful conditions. Additionally, the antioxidant action of compound 3a may contribute to reducing nociception and suppressing inflammation signaling pathways.

K2S2O8/I2-Promoted Electrophilic Selenylative Cyclization To Access Seleno-Benzo[b]azepines

Zhen Zhang et al.

Summary: A novel and simple organoselenium-involved 7-membered cyclization method has been developed for accessing diverse seleno-benzo[b]azepines. The protocol involves an electrophilic cyclization process and is conducted under mild conditions. Mechanistic discussions rationalize the observed regioselectivity in the transformation. Further studies on the transformation of seleno-benzo[b]azepines and large-scale experiments demonstrate promising utility of this methodology.

Dual Ligand Enabled Nondirected C-H Chalcogenation of Arenes and Heteroarenes

Soumya Kumar Sinha et al.

Summary: The article reports the development of a catalytic system for the synthesis of chalcogen motifs using a complimentary dual-ligand approach. The reaction is controlled by steric and electronic factors, and the use of suitable ligands allows the generation of products different from classical methods. The combination of ligands is crucial in the reaction protocol, and the mechanism of the reaction has been investigated through theoretical calculations and experiments.

Directed Dehydrogenative Copper-Catalyzed C-H Thiolation in Pseudo-Anomeric Position of Glycals using Thiol and Thiosugar Partners

Linlin Li et al.

Summary: This paper describes a directed copper-catalyzed dehydrogenative C-H thiolation method for the synthesis of 1-thiotrehaloses and thioglycals. By using aminoquinoline-containing glycals and thiosugars or thiols as coupling partners, a library of thioglycosides can be synthesized in moderate to good yields.

Palladium-catalyzed C-H trifluoromethylselenolation of arenes with [Me4N][SeCF3] and an oxidant

Lei Liu et al.

Summary: The trifluoromethylselenolation of arenes through Pd-catalyzed C(sp(2))-H activation with the assistance of a directing group and an oxidant has been established for the first time. This reaction tolerates various directing groups and functional groups, allowing selective installation of a SeCF3 moiety onto the ortho positions of arenes. Mechanistic studies suggest that the CF3SeSeCF3 intermediate generated in situ from the oxidation of [Me4N][SeCF3] may be the actual SeCF3 reagent in the reaction.

Transition Metal-Free, Free-Radical Sulfenylation of the α-C(sp3)-H Bond in Arylacetamides and Its Application Toward 2-Thiomethyl Benzoxazoles Synthesis

Shanghui Tian et al.

Summary: This paper presents a transition metal-free C(sp(3))-H sulfenylation of arylacetamides using thiophenols as sulfenyl reagents, with only K3PO4 as the required presence. Control experiments confirmed the involvement of a sulfur-centered free radical intermediate in the reactions, and the synthesis of 2-thiomethyl benzoxazoles was achieved through a p-toluenesulfonic acid (p-TSA) promoted annulation of the sulfenylated products.
