Observation of intrinsic chiral bound states in the continuum

Yang Chen et al.

Summary: Photons with spin angular momentum possess intrinsic chirality, which has a wide range of applications. Current experimental attempts rely on false/extrinsic chirality, but this study has achieved true/intrinsic chiral response using resonant metasurfaces, achieving near-unity circular dichroism and a high quality factor for visible frequencies.

Ligand Chemistry of Inorganic Lead Halide Perovskite Nanocrystals

Nadesh Fiuza-Maneiro et al.

Summary: Lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (LHP NCs) are semiconductor materials with exceptional optical and optoelectronic properties. The surface chemistry, including ligands and surface termination, plays a crucial role in determining the optical and optoelectronic performance as well as the colloidal stability of LHP NCs. Functionalization of the surface with desired molecules can induce new functionalities, such as photocatalysis and chirality. This review provides an atomic view of the surface chemistry of colloidal LHP NCs, including crystal termination, vacancies, and different types of capping ligands, and discusses the ligand-induced functionalities.

Nanoimprinted 2D-Chiral Perovskite Nanocrystal Metasurfaces for Circularly Polarized Photoluminescence

Jose Mendoza-Carreno et al.

Summary: The versatile hybrid perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have tunable bandgaps and high photoluminescence (PL) quantum yields, making them promising materials for optoelectronics. However, their crystalline chemical structure limits their chiroptical properties. This study introduces a scalable approach to produce chiral PL from 2D-chiral metasurfaces, using unmodified colloidal perovskite NC inks patterned by nanoimprinting lithography.

Ligand Exchange Strategy to Achieve Chiral Perovskite Nanocrystals with a High Photoluminescence Quantum Yield and Regulation of the Chiroptical Property

Shuang Jiang et al.

Summary: Chiral nanomaterials, especially chiral perovskite nanocrystals, have attracted attention due to their promising optoelectronic properties. By using an effective ligand exchange strategy, the circular dichroism (CD) signals of CsPbBr3 PNCs can be improved, leading to enhanced photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) and tunable luminescence emission. This approach also allows for the regulation of chiral intensity and wavelength range in the longitudinal and transverse dimensions, respectively.

The Structural Origin of Chiroptical Properties in Perovskite Nanocrystals with Chiral Organic Ligands

Young-Hoon Kim et al.

Summary: This study investigates how chiral ligands attached to perovskite nanocrystal surfaces distort the perovskite lattice and demonstrates the resulting chiral electro-optical properties. The major finding is a centro-asymmetric distortion of the surface lattice, which is likely the cause of the chiral-optical properties. Spin-polarized transport through chiral nanocrystals amplifies the discrimination between left and right-handed circularly polarized light.

Perovskite light-emitting diodes

Azhar Fakharuddin et al.

Summary: Light-emitting diodes based on halide perovskites have achieved significant progress in recent years, with external quantum efficiencies surpassing 23%. However, their practical application is still limited due to factors such as low efficiency in blue-emitting devices, inability to access emission wavelengths above 800 nm, decreased external quantum efficiency at high current density, lack of understanding of the electric field's effect on mobile ions in perovskite materials, and short device lifetimes. This review explores the development of perovskite light-emitting diodes, examining the key challenges in creating efficient and stable devices.
