ε-poly-L-lysine-modified polydopamine nanoparticles for targeted photothermal therapy of drug-resistant bacterial keratitis

Wenjie Fan et al.

Summary: In this study, antibacterial photothermal therapy (aPTT) mediated by e-poly-L-lysine (EPL)-modified polydopamine (PDA) nanoparticles (EPL@PDA NPs) successfully treated MRSA-induced keratitis. The surface modification of cationic peptide EPL enabled specific targeting of MRSA and induction of local hyperthermia under low ambient temperature. The EPL@PDA-mediated aPTT showed high antibacterial efficacy and biocompatibility in treating MRSA-induced refractory bacterial keratitis.

Facile Synthesis of Self-Targeted Zn2+-Gallic acid Nanoflowers for Specific Adhesion and Elimination of Gram-Positive Bacteria

Yue Huang et al.

Summary: Transition metal ions have been used as disinfectants for thousands of years, but their in vivo antibacterial application is limited due to their high affinity with proteins and lacking appropriate bacterial targeting methods. In this study, Zn2+-gallic acid nanoflowers (ZGNFs) were synthesized for the first time using a facile one-pot method without additional stabilizing agents. ZGNFs are stable in aqueous solution but can be easily decomposed in acidic environments. They exhibit high bactericidal effect on Gram-positive bacteria by specifically adhering to them, and the in situ Zn2+ release on the bacterial surface is the main reason for this effect. The research also demonstrates the potential of ZGNFs as a targeted delivery system for combating Gram-positive bacterial infections.
