Advance of Prussian Blue-Derived Nanohybrids in Energy Storage: Current Status and Perspective

Ronghao Wang et al.

Summary: Recent years have seen significant changes in the energy storage area due to rapid economic expansion. Substantial research has been conducted on sustainable energy conversion and storage systems to address the looming energy crisis. To this end, it is crucial to develop energy storage materials, such as Prussian blue analogs (PBAs), which are materials with an open frame structure. Anode materials including oxides, sulfides, selenides, phosphides, borides, and carbides have been extensively explored, and this work discusses their advantages, disadvantages, experimental methodologies, and electrochemical properties. The findings indicate that using these materials to address issues like low conductivity, excessive material loss, and low specific volume is ineffective, and therefore, this review focuses on combining multiple technologies to manufacture battery materials with low cost, large capacity, and extended service life.

On-Demand, Highly Tunable, and Selective 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural Hydrogenation to Furan Diols Enabled by Ni and Ni3Ga Alloy Catalysts

Yongsheng Zhang et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the catalytic conversion of the biobased chemical 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) into high-value-added products. By optimizing the metal and reduction temperature, Ni1.5Al-LDO-700 and Ni1.5GaAl-LDO-700 catalysts achieved yields of >99% and 95.6% for bihydroxymethyltetrahydrofuran (BHMTHF) and bihydroxymethylfurfural (BHMF), respectively. Doped Ga disrupted the Ni arrangement, weakened furan ring adsorption, and selectively produced BHMF by inhibiting deep hydrogenation.

Electronic Structure Engineering of Single-Atom Ru Sites via Co-N4 Sites for Bifunctional pH-Universal Water Splitting

Chengli Rong et al.

Summary: The development of bifunctional water-splitting electrocatalysts that are efficient and stable over a wide range of pH is crucial but challenging. This study reports an atomically dispersed Ru/Co dual-sites catalyst anchored on N-doped carbon (Ru/Co-N-C) for excellent oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in both acidic and alkaline electrolytes. The catalyst shows superior performance compared to benchmark catalysts Pt/C and RuO2, with low overpotentials and high current densities. Theoretical calculations and experimental results demonstrate that the introduction of Co-N4 sites into Ru/Co-N-C modifies the electronic structure of Ru and enhances the bonding strength with oxygen/hydrogen intermediate species, leading to improved OER and HER performance. Furthermore, the incorporation of Co-N4 sites improves the corrosion-resistance of Ru/Co-N-C during electrolysis. The Ru/Co-N-C catalyst has been successfully applied in a proton exchange membrane water electrolyzer and shows stable operation at a high current density.

Exsolution of CoFe(Ru) nanoparticles in Ru-doped (La0.8Sr0.2)0.9Co0.1Fe0.8Ru0.1O3-δ for efficient oxygen evolution reaction

Yi Liang et al.

Summary: In this study, a Ru-doped (La0.8Sr0.2)(0.9)Co0.1Fe0.8Ru0.1O3-delta (LSCFR) perovskite catalyst with CoFe(Ru) alloy particles exsolved on the surface was successfully fabricated for oxygen evolution reaction (OER). It exhibited superior OER performance with good stability compared to the pristine LSCFR. The enhancement of OER performance was attributed to the exsolution of CoFe(Ru) particles, Ru doping, and the increase of surface oxygen vacancies. This study highlights the potential of in situ exsolution as an effective strategy for designing OER catalysts and controlling the composition of nanoparticles through element doping.
