ZIF-8@Rhodamine B as a Self-Reporting Material for Pollutant Extraction Applications

Edward W. P. Moore et al.

Summary: In this study, the potential of dye-encapsulation as a mechanism to self-report the stability of MOFs for pollutant extraction was evaluated. The dye-encapsulated ZIF-8 showed comparable extraction performance with bare ZIF-8 for hydrophobic endocrine-disrupting phenols and improved extraction performance for hydrophilic endocrine disruptors. The method allows for real-time monitoring of material stability issues during the application process.

Photoresponse within dye-incorporated metal-organic architectures

Yang Jiao et al.

Summary: Recognition, involving weak non-covalent interactions, is crucial in biological systems for enzyme-substrate binding. Chemists have developed recognition systems based on supramolecular metal-organic architectures, which offer large cavities for selective binding and diverse interactions with analytes. Optimal detection relies on the optical signals from the recognition of host and analyte molecules within the confined spaces of metal-organic hosts through electron/energy transfer processes, redox reactions, or other mechanisms.

Efficient Removal of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances from Water with Zirconium-Based Metal-Organic Frameworks

Rui Li et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the zirconium-based metal-organic framework NU-1000 shows exceptional adsorption capacities and ultrafast adsorption kinetics for PFASs, with equilibrium times of less than 1 minute. NU-1000 also exhibits excellent regeneration and reusability characteristics, with nearly quantitative removal and recovery rates after five consecutive adsorption and desorption cycles of PFAS. Adsorption testing using PFAS-contaminated groundwater samples shows impressive PFAS removal rates of 75-98% within 10 minutes, regardless of the presence of co-contaminants.
