Significantly enhanced photothermal catalytic CO2 reduction over TiO2/g-C3N4 composite with full spectrum solar light

Xiaoyan Bao et al.

Summary: Using solar energy to convert CO2 into value-added chemicals has great potential to address global energy shortage and climate change. This study reports a novel strategy of preparing a boron-doped g-C3N4/TiO2-x composite catalyst (BCT) that shows extended full-spectrum absorption, rapid charge separation, and outstanding CO2 photoreduction performance. The CO2 conversion rate of BCT is 7.5 and 9.2 times higher than that of pure TiO2 and g-C3N4, respectively. Mechanistic studies reveal that the synergistic effects of BCT lower the energy barrier for CO2 conversion by altering charge density distribution. This work provides a new integrated strategy for fabricating efficient catalysts.

Bubble-propelled micro-/nanomotors of variable sizes by regulating the surface microstructure of partially coated Pt shells

Jiaxin Li et al.

Summary: A simple and scalable colloidal chemistry synthesis method has been developed to fabricate bubble-propelled micro-/nanomotors (MNMs) of variable sizes by regulating the surface microstructure of partially coated Pt shells. The rough surface of the partially coated Pt shells containing many nano-pits greatly reduces the energy for bubble nucleation and can act as active sites for the pinning and growth of bubbles. The MNMs can demonstrate bubble propulsion even when the size is reduced to 200 nm.

Biotemplated Shell Micromotors for Efficient Degradation of Antibiotics via Enhanced Peroxymonosulfate Activation

Ke Wang et al.

Summary: Self-propelled magnetic MnO2@pollen micromotors have been developed as active heterogeneous catalysts for efficient degradation of antibiotics. The micromotors utilize MnO2 nanosheets for propulsion and together with Fe3O4 nanoparticles, activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to degrade antibiotics. The self-propulsion and bubble formation enhance fluid mixing and mass transfer, overcoming the diffusion limitation of traditional catalysts. Additionally, the magnetic properties enable long-range magnetic control and reutilization.

Efficient degradation of norfloxacin by carbonized polydopamine-decorated g-C3N4 activated peroxymonosulfate: Performance and mechanism

Yuqi Deng et al.

Summary: The preparation of carbonized polydopamine-decorated g-C3N4 composite material for activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to degrade norfloxacin has achieved excellent catalytic performance. The degradation of norfloxacin is not hindered by sulfate radical and hydroxyl radical, with singlet oxygen and mediated electron transfer identified as the primary mechanisms. The carbonyl group serves as an important active site, and the electron transfer pathway involves adsorption of PMS on the composite material surface and subsequent electron transfer between norfloxacin and the metastable complex.
