Chiral Carbon Nanorings: Synthesis, Properties and Hierarchical Self-assembly of Chiral Ternary Complexes Featuring a Narcissistic Chiral Self-Recognition for Chiral Amines

Yanqing Fan et al.

Summary: In this study, novel chiral carbon nanorings Sp-/Rp-[12]PCPP containing a planar chiral [2.2]PCP unit were synthesized and their chiroptical properties were investigated. It was found that Sp-/Rp-[12]PCPP could form ring-in-ring complexes with crown ether 18-Crown-6, as well as ternary complexes with 18-Crown-6 and S/R-protonated amines. The ternary complexes exhibited enhanced chiroptical signals and demonstrated a highly narcissistic chiral self-recognition for S/R-protonated chiral amines.

Synthesis of two optically active V-shaped molecules: Investigating the correlation between the stacking angle and chiroptical properties

Kensei Matsumura et al.

Summary: This study synthesizes two optically active V-shaped molecules using chiral building blocks of enantiopure pseudo-ortho- and pseudo-meta-disubstituted [2.2]paracyclophane. The molecules consist of the same rc-electron system stacked at the terminal benzene rings with stacking angles of 60 degrees and 120 degrees. The molecule with a 60-degree stacking angle exhibits better chiroptical properties, especially circularly polarized luminescence behavior, which is confirmed by theoretical studies. A correlation exists between the chiroptical properties and stacking angle of emissive rc-conjugated molecules.

[2,2] Paracyclophanes-based double helicates for constructing artificial light-harvesting systems and white LED device

Zhe Lian et al.

Summary: The authors report the non-covalent syntheses of double helicates by metalcoordination interaction and their applications in artificial light-harvesting systems (ALHSs) and white light-emitting diode (LED) device. The aggregated double helicates can be used to construct efficient ALHSs with high energy transfer efficiency. Furthermore, the double helicates can produce white light emission in different forms, such as a PMMA film and a blue LED bulb.

Synthesis and Chiroptical Properties of One-Handed Helical Oligo-o-phenylene-ethynylenes Using Planar Chiral [2.2]Paracyclophane

Nanami Miki et al.

Summary: In this study, both enantiomers of a one-handed helical molecule with an o-arylene-ethynylene skeleton were prepared using a planar chiral [2.2]paracyclophane, and the helicity of the molecule was controlled by its planar chirality. Excellent chiroptical properties, especially intense circularly polarized luminescence with a high g(lum) value on the order of 10(-2), were observed.

Quantifying the Overall Efficiency of Circularly Polarized Emitters

Lorenzo Arrico et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new concept of CPL brightness (B-CPL), which takes into consideration the absorption extinction coefficient and quantum yield in addition to the g(lum) factor, to comprehensively evaluate the efficiency of CPL emitters. By calculating B-CPL values for over 180 compounds and analyzing the data distribution for main classes of CPL molecular emitters, this tool can aid in contextualizing new CPL active compounds and guiding the selection of molecular systems for specific CPL applications.
