Rolling contact fatigue deformation mechanisms of nickel-rich nickel-titanium-hafnium alloys

Sean H. Mills et al.

Summary: The deformation mechanisms of heat treated Ni-Ti-Hf alloys were revealed through RCF testing and TEM analyses. The Ni56Ti36Hf8 alloy showed superior RCF damage resistance due to a lower fraction of B2 matrix phase and a microstructure confined by nanoprecipitates.

Heat treatment - microstructure - hardness relationships of new nickel-rich nickel-titanium-hafnium alloys developed for tribological applications

Sean H. Mills et al.

Summary: The effects of different heat treatments on the microstructure and hardness of new Ni-Ti-Hf alloys were studied to evaluate their suitability for tribological applications. The results showed that the hardness of the alloys was influenced by the presence of Hf atoms and the precipitate phases formed during aging treatments.
