A novel metamaterial with individually adjustable and sign-switchable Poisson?s ratio

Weitao Lv et al.

Summary: In recent studies, structures with alternating positive and negative Poisson's ratio have been proposed, offering a new direction for structural design. This paper introduces a structure that can have different Poisson's ratio signs under tension and compression, and allows separate adjustment of the Poisson's ratio under tension or compression. Through FEM simulation and experiments, the Poisson's ratio of this proposed structure under tension and compression is studied. The results demonstrate that the Poisson's ratio under tension and compression has opposite signs, and the value of the Poisson's ratio under tension or compression can be individually altered by adjusting geometric parameters. The proposed structure's unique deformation behavior is independent of material properties. 2D and 3D cellular structures composed of 2D unit cell arrays retain these distinctive characteristics. The self-contact effect utilized in the proposed structure offers a fresh perspective on adjustable Poisson's ratio and structural design.

Quasi-static and blast resistance performance of octet-truss-filled double tubes

Weitao Lv et al.

Summary: A new octet-truss-filled double tubes structure was proposed, and its mechanical behavior and blast resistance performance were analyzed. The specific energy absorption of the structure was higher than other filled tube structures, and the displacement of the back plate was smaller, indicating better performance. The effects of explosion load, plate thickness, and octet-truss side length on the blast resistance performance were also discussed.

Longitudinal bending of corrugated sandwich panels with cores of various shapes

Fukun Xia et al.

Summary: The mechanical response of aluminium corrugated sandwich panels with different core shapes under longitudinal three-point bending is studied in this paper. Experimental and numerical methods are used, and the results are in good agreement. Parametric studies are conducted to investigate the effects of core parameters, and two deformation modes are observed. Finally, a multiobjective Bayesian optimization method is applied to optimize the geometry of trapezoidal corrugated sandwich panels to enhance specific energy absorption and reduce intrusion depth.

Soham Teraiya et al.

Summary: This paper presents an experimental study on the mechanical properties of additively manufactured anti-tetrachiral auxetic structures under shear and flexural loading. The influence of process factors on modulus, strength, and specific energy absorption (SEA) is investigated, and regression models are developed to predict the response characteristics. The study shows that the mechanical properties of the structures improve with increasing slice thickness, print speed, and contour width, and optimized values of process factors are determined to maximize the mechanical properties.

Triangular corrugated sandwich panels under longitudinal bending

Fukun Xia et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the mechanical response of aluminum corrugated sandwich panels subjected to longitudinal loading, examining the effects of geometric configurations on deformation mode, peak force, and specific energy absorption. It is found that thicker core webs result in greater energy absorption, and that the energy dissipated by sandwich panels can be tailored by varying the geometry of the core. Based on experimental and simulation observations, a theoretical analysis using energy method is used to predict the crushing force of panels during large deformation.
