Rapid and accurate detection of SARS-CoV-2 mutations using a Cas12a-based sensing platform

Changsheng He et al.

Summary: The increasing prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 variants with spike mutations has raised concerns. Rapid and accurate detection of these variants is crucial for infection prevention and control. The RT-CORDS platform accurately, sensitively, specifically, and rapidly detects SARS-CoV-2 variants, making it a potential tool for clinical diagnosis.

Chromosome splitting of Plasmodium berghei using the CRISPR/Cas9 system

Daniel Addo-Gyan et al.

Summary: This study presents a method for splitting chromosomes in rodent malaria parasites using the CRISPR/Cas9 system. The split chromosomes were accurately segregated into daughter parasites and the elongation of de novo telomeres was observed, indicating their proper function. Chromosome splitting had no effect on parasite development, suggesting its potential as a tool for investigating the biological role of chromosome spatial arrangement in gene expression.

Utilization of 18s ribosomal RNA LAMP for detecting Plasmodium falciparum in microscopy and rapid diagnostic test negative patients

Enoch Aninagyei et al.

Summary: In this study, Plasmodium falciparum was detected in patients who tested negative using microscopy and mRDT, using the LAMP technique for 18s rRNA amplification. The study found that LAMP assay was more sensitive in detecting pre-clinical malaria compared to microscopy and mRDT. The prevalence of Plasmodium infection was higher in patients over 30 years old, males, rural dwellers, and patients seeking outpatient services. The study highlights the importance of using a sensitive technique like LAMP to increase detection rates of Plasmodium infection.

Sensitive and Easy-Read CRISPR Strip for COVID-19 Rapid Point-of-Care Testing

Hao Li et al.

Summary: A study developed an enhanced strip for CRISPR detection of SARS-CoV-2, which improved sensitivity to 1 copy/μL and provided clear and easy-to-read results. Validation with clinical samples showed high positive predictive agreement (90.67%) and negative predictive agreement (99.21%) for SARS-CoV-2 RNA detection using this strip.
