Inhibition of PRMT6 reduces neomycin-induced inner ear hair cell injury through the restraint of FoxG1 arginine methylation

Xingcheng Li et al.

Summary: This study found that PRMT6 plays an important role in neomycin-induced inner ear hair cell injury. Inhibition of PRMT6 can reduce the arginine methylation of FoxG1, thereby alleviating the damage caused by neomycin.

Functional Study of Leishmania braziliensis Protein Arginine Methyltransferases (PRMTs) Reveals That PRMT1 and PRMT5 Are Required for Macrophage Infection

Lucas Lorenzon et al.

Summary: In trypanosomatids, RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) play a crucial role in gene expression regulation through the posttranscriptional modification by protein arginine methyltransferases (PRMTs). This study functionally characterized the predicted PRMTs in Leishmania braziliensis and revealed the variation of R-methylation profiles among Leishmania species and different lifecycle stages. The results suggest the existence of a PRMT-interacting protein network and the importance of arginine methylation in parasite-host cell interactions.

Highly accurate protein structure prediction with AlphaFold

John Jumper et al.

Summary: Proteins are essential for life, and accurate prediction of their structures is a crucial research problem. Current experimental methods are time-consuming, highlighting the need for accurate computational approaches to address the gap in structural coverage. Despite recent progress, existing methods fall short of atomic accuracy in protein structure prediction.

Prmt5 promotes vascular morphogenesis independently of its methyltransferase activity

Aurelie Quillien et al.

Summary: The study reveals a crucial role of Prmt5 in vascular morphogenesis and blood cell formation, showing that Prmt5's enzymatic activity is required for the latter but not the former. Prmt5 acts in part independently of its methyltransferase activity to regulate vascular morphogenesis, suggesting potential for alternative drug design. This non-canonical function of Prmt5 may have broader implications in physiological and pathological conditions, warranting further attention in the future.

Arginine Methyltransferases as Regulators of RNA-Binding Protein Activities in Pathogenic Kinetoplastids

Gustavo D. Campagnaro et al.

Summary: A large number of eukaryotic proteins are regulated by various post-translational covalent modifications, with arginine methylation playing a significant role in affecting protein interactions. Kinetoplastids, with their unique genetic features, serve as excellent models for studying post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. The roles of PRMTs in controlling RBPs in pathogenic kinetoplastids have been extensively studied, with important discoveries made in recent years.
