Real-world treatment patterns and clinical outcomes among patients with advanced urothelial carcinoma in the United States

Daniel M. Geynisman et al.

Summary: This large-scale US-based study examined treatment patterns and clinical outcomes in patients with advanced or metastatic urothelial carcinoma. The results highlight the significant unmet need in this population, particularly among cisplatin-ineligible patients.

Identifying Valid Algorithms for Number of Lines of Anti-Neoplastic Therapy in the Danish National Patient Registry Among Patients with Advanced Ovarian, Gastric, Renal Cell, Urothelial, and Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Attending a Danish University Hospital

Signe Sorup et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to develop algorithms to determine the number of lines of anti-neoplastic therapy per patient based on the Danish National Patient Registry (DNPR) and evaluate which algorithm had the highest percentage agreement with a reference standard of documentation in medical records. The researchers compared two algorithms based on dates and treatment codes in the DNPR, and found that incorporating both specific drug names and a time interval of less than 45 days between consecutive administrations improved the accuracy of the algorithm.

Clinical practice pattern in patients with advanced urothelial cancer who had progressed on pembrolizumab in the pre-enfortumab vedotin era

Yuki Kita et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the treatment of patients with advanced urothelial carcinoma after disease progression with pembrolizumab in the real world. The results showed a lack of standard treatment, with only a minority of patients receiving chemotherapy as subsequent systemic treatment. The introduction of enfortumab vedotin is expected to improve treatment outcomes in this setting.

Reasons for lack of treatment in patients with locally advanced, unresectable or metastatic urothelial carcinoma

Lise H. Omland et al.

Summary: This study investigated the proportion of patients with locally advanced, unresectable or metastatic urothelial carcinoma who did not receive systemic anticancer treatment, as well as the reasons for lack of treatment and overall survival. The results showed that one in three patients in the pre-immunotherapy era did not receive treatment, primarily due to poor physical condition, decreased renal function, or patient preferences. The findings emphasize the urgent need for novel and better tolerated treatment regimens for this frail patient group.

Understanding Treatment Patterns and Outcomes among Patients with De Novo Unresectable Locally Advanced or Metastatic Urothelial Cancer: A Population-Level Retrospective Analysis from Alberta, Canada

Nimira Alimohamed et al.

Summary: Real-world data on treatment patterns and survival outcomes of patients with unresectable locally advanced or metastatic urothelial carcinoma (la/mUC) in Canada are limited. This study found that the majority of patients did not receive systemic therapy, and those who did had poor survival outcomes. The results highlight the significant unmet need for safe and efficacious therapies for la/mUC patients in Canada.
