Optimization of the Thermoelectric Properties of SnSe2 Using First-Principles Calculations

Sree Sourav Das et al.

Summary: We propose a first-principles framework to study the electronic properties of SnSe2 and optimize its thermoelectric performance. By using density functional theory and the Boltzmann transport equation, we calculate the thermoelectric power factor considering electron-phonon and ionized impurity interactions. Furthermore, we evaluate the lattice thermal conductivity and find that the SnSe2 layers exhibit ultra-low thermal conductivity, resulting in a high ZT value of 1.1 at 950 K.

MXene as charge reservoir promotes the thermoelectric performance of layered metal selenide SnSe2

Yiqing Wei et al.

Summary: Layered metal selenides have gained significant attention in thermoelectrics. However, the n-type conduction compounds suffer from carrier deficiency and low electrical conductivity, specifically along the out-of-plane direction. In this study, two-dimensional MXene with metallic conductivity is introduced into the SnSe2 matrix as a carrier reservoir to address the electron shortage. The experimental results illustrate that the composites with Br-doped SnSe2 / Ti3C2Tx exhibit significantly increased carrier concentration and achieve a high zT value at an elevated temperature.
