Parent grain reconstruction from partially or fully transformed microstructures in MTEX

Frank Niessen et al.

Summary: This article presents a versatile generic framework for parent grain reconstruction and its application in various crystal symmetry combinations. The framework's flexibility and the capability of variant analysis are demonstrated through example workflows. The add-on function library ORTools provides advanced orientation relationship discovery and analysis options.

Kernel density estimation for circular data: a Fourier series-based plug-in approach for bandwidth selection

Carlos Tenreiro

Summary: This paper investigates a class of density estimators for circular data and proposes a bandwidth selection approach. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed bandwidth selector has a higher relative convergence rate and performs well under finite sample conditions.

Automated reconstruction of parent austenite phase based on the optimum orientation relationship

Edgar Gomes de Araujo et al.

Summary: The study introduces a new approach to optimize the reconstruction of phase structure by utilizing an electron backscatter diffraction measured data set. The method consists of two new algorithms to automatically identify the optimal orientation relationship and reconstruct the parent phase microstructure using a random walk clustering technique. The results were validated by comparing the experimentally measured parent phase structure with the reconstructed counterpart.
