Approaching a Minimal Topological Electronic Structure in Antiferromagnetic Topological Insulator MnBi2Te4 via Surface Modification

Aiji Liang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the control of topological surface state in an intrinsic magnetic topological insulator through surface modification. By using experimental methods, researchers found the hybridization of topological surface state and discovered an efficient method to remove the hybridization. This study provides new possibilities for the topological behavior in magnetic topological quantum materials.

Emergence of Fermi arcs due to magnetic splitting in an antiferromagnet

Benjamin Schrunk et al.

Summary: The Fermi surface plays a crucial role in material properties. Fermi arcs can be signatures of unusual electronic states and can be obtained by breaking specific symmetries. In this study, experimental evidence is presented showing the emergence of hole- and electron-like Fermi arcs below the Neel temperature in an antiferromagnetic state. This magnetic splitting effect is unique as it creates bands with opposing curvature that change with temperature.

Evolution of the Electronic Structure of Ultrathin MnBi2Te4 Films

Runzhe Xu et al.

Summary: The electronic structure of MnBi2Te4 thin films evolves from an insulator type to in-gap topological surface states with increasing film thickness, and a Rashba split band gradually emerges and hybridizes with topological surface states through surface doping.

Epitaxial growth, magnetoresistance, and electronic band structure of GdSb magnetic semimetal films

Hadass S. Inbar et al.

Summary: This study investigates the electronic band structure and transport behavior of epitaxial GdSb thin films grown on III-V semiconductor surfaces. The GdSb thin films exhibit a hole-carrier rich, topologically trivial, semimetallic band structure. The carrier mobilities are limited by surface and interface scattering, resulting in lower magnetoresistance.

Rare-earth monopnictides: Family of antiferromagnets hosting magnetic Fermi arcs

Yevhen Kushnirenko et al.

Summary: Since the discovery of topological insulators, there has been a significant amount of research on magnetic topological materials, where spin properties can be controlled by magnetic fields. Recent findings of Fermi arcs and magnetic band splitting in antiferromagnetic materials have opened up new exploration opportunities. These effects are not limited to specific compounds, but also occur in other materials. One of these materials shows strong anisotropy, potentially enhancing the effects of spin textures on transport properties. These findings suggest that these materials could be a potential platform for modern spintronics.

Observation of metallic electronic structure in a single-atomic-layer oxide

Byungmin Sohn et al.

Summary: While transition metal oxides typically become insulators in the single-atomic-layer limit, a correlated metallic state has been found in a single-atomic layer of epitaxial SrRuO3, demonstrating tunability in the electronic phase of single-atomic-layer oxides and the potential for rich phases in two-dimensional correlated electron systems.

Irvsp: To obtain irreducible representations of electronic states in the VASP

Jiacheng Gao et al.

Summary: The open-source program irvsp computes irreducible representations for electronic states in all 230 space groups, using wavefunctions and space group operators generated by the Vienna ab-initio Simulation Package. It can handle spin-orbit coupling and is useful for analyzing energy bands, their connectivities, and band topology. The program has been extended to orthogonal tight-binding Hamiltonians and a sister program is also available.

Controlling magnetoresistance by tuning semimetallicity through dimensional confinement and heteroepitaxy

Shouvik Chatterjee et al.

Summary: Controlling electronic properties through quantum confinement can modify carrier compensation and affect carrier mobility, leading to changes in magnetoresistance behavior; at the heteroepitaxial interface of a semimetal and a semiconductor, bonding mismatch results in the emergence of a two-dimensional, interfacial hole gas, accompanied by charge transfer across the interface, offering another way to adjust electronic structure and magnetotransport properties.
