Self-Powered and Light-Adaptable Stretchable Electrochromic Display

Summary: A self-powered stretchable electrochromic display is proposed for the first time, using WO3 as the electrochromic electrode integrated with Zn/carbon electrodes and a ZnCl2-based organohydrogel. The device shows reversible coloring/bleaching performance up to 50% strain, with stable power-free reversible electrochemical switching for 400 cycles and 81% optical contrast retention for 200 stretching/recovery cycles. The combined device with a phosphorescent substrate demonstrates light-adaptable stretchable display without power consumption.

The challenges and future directions are addressed as well.

Extraordinarily Stable Aqueous Electrochromic Battery Based on Li4Ti5O12 and Hybrid Al3+/Zn2+ Electrolyte

Summary: Aqueous electrochromic batteries have great potential in various applications, but suffer from poor cycling stability. A new ultrastable electrochromic system composed of lithium titanate (LTO) and Al3+/Zn2+ hybrid electrolyte is presented here, showing excellent redox reaction reversibility and high cycling stabilities in optical contrast and energy storage. The system also exhibits superior electrochromic performances and discharge areal capacity. The robust [TiO6] octahedral frameworks in LTO contribute to the extraordinary cycling stability. This high-performance electrochromic system enables the commercialization of low-cost, high-safety aqueous-based devices and provides design guidance for LTO-related materials used in aqueous-based energy storage devices.

A Figure of Merit for Fast-Charging Li-ion Battery Materials

A Ca-Ion Electrochromic Battery via a Water-in-Salt Electrolyte
