Design of Calixarene-Based ICD Inducer for Efficient Cancer Immunotherapy

Zhanzhan Zhang et al.

Summary: A novel calixarene compound named CA-3 is presented, which drives bona fide immunogenic cell death (ICD) with high efficiency and can bind with anticancer drugs. CA-3 effectively cooperates with various chemotherapeutics to improve their anticancer performance by activating ICD-associated anti-tumor immunity, making it a potential platform to improve the prognosis of commonly used chemotherapies in clinical practice.

Promoting Tumor Accumulation of Anticancer Drugs by Hierarchical Carrying of Exogenous and Endogenous Vehicles

Yu-Xin Yue et al.

Summary: A new drug delivery paradigm based on supramolecular hierarchical recognition is proposed to achieve high tumor accumulation of anticancer drugs by overcoming challenges such as fast clearance or premature degradation, slow drug release kinetics, and nonspecific biodistribution. The formulation exhibits more efficient tumor accumulation than other PTX formulations, contributing to better therapeutic efficacy.

Synthesis and Bioactivity of Guanidinium-Functionalized Pillar[5]arene as a Biofilm Disruptor

Shuwen Guo et al.

Summary: A novel guanidinium-functionalized pillar[5]arene, GP5, was designed and synthesized to effectively combat bacterial biofilms. GP5 showed high antibacterial potency against Gram-negative and Gram-positive strains and successfully disrupted preformed biofilms by penetrating biofilm barriers and destroying biofilm-enclosed bacteria. Additionally, host-guest complexation between GP5 and cefazolin sodium exhibited synergistic disruption activity against biofilms, providing a novel supramolecular platform for biofilm eradication.

Highly Tumor-Specific and Long-Acting Iodine-131 Microbeads for Enhanced Treatment of Hepatocellular Carcinoma with Low-Dose Radio-Chemoembolization

Yuyi Qian et al.

Summary: Transarterial radioembolization (TARE) is an effective treatment for intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). A highly tumor-specific I-131-TARE agent with long-time retention has been developed using tyrosine-modified poly(vinyl alcohol) drug-eluting microbeads (Tyr-PVA-DEBs). This agent allows localized delivery of high-radiation doses to tumors following a single low-dose injection, showing potential for clinical application in treating HCC.
