Strong chirality in twisted bilayer α-MoO3

Bi-Yuan Wu et al.

Summary: This paper theoretically investigates the chiral response of twisted bilayer alpha-MoO3 and derives the analytical formula for its transmissivity. The results demonstrate that this structure can excite strong chirality due to the relative rotation of two alpha-MoO3 layers. Furthermore, the structure can maintain strong chirality under a wide range of twisted angle and incidence angle.

Intelligent infrared sensing enabled by tunable moire quantum geometry

Chao Ma et al.

Summary: The discovery of tunable mid-infrared bulk photovoltaic effect in twisted double bilayer graphene points to the unique role of moire engineered quantum geometry in tunable nonlinear light-matter interactions. The photoresponse heavily relies on the polarization state of excitation light and can be highly tuned by external electric fields.

Twisted black phosphorus-based van der Waals stacks for fiber-integrated polarimeters

Yifeng Xiong et al.

Summary: In this paper, a fiber-integrated polarimeter based on six-layer van der Waals materials is designed and fabricated for real-time, in-line analysis of light polarization in optical networks. The device structure is ultracompact and free from external optical and mechanical modules, which may inspire the development of miniaturized optical and optoelectronic systems.

Ultrafast Internal Exciton Dissociation through Edge States in MoS2 Nanosheets with Diffusion Blocking

Xinyu Sui et al.

Summary: This study investigates the dynamics of edge states in ball-milling-produced MoS2 nanosheets. The experiments confirm that the edge states are located in the range of 1.23 to 1.78 eV. Above bandgap excitations result in the formation of edge states through exciton diffusion towards the boundary, while below bandgap excitations slow down the formation of edge states. These results are significant for understanding the exciton dissociation processes on the boundary of functionalized TMDCs.

On-chip mid-infrared photothermoelectric detectors for full-Stokes detection

Mingjin Dai et al.

Summary: In this study, a three-ports polarimeter based on on-chip chiral plasmonic metamaterial-mediated mid-infrared photodetectors is proposed and demonstrated for full-Stokes detection. By utilizing the photothermoelectric effect, polarization-resolved absorptions can be converted to corresponding polarization-resolved photovoltages, enabling polarization reconstruction. This research provides a novel strategy for developing mid-infrared polarization-sensitive photodetectors.

Broadband electro-optic polarization conversion with atomically thin black phosphorus

Souvik Biswas et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates electrically reconfigurable polarization conversion using tri-layer black phosphorus integrated in a Fabry-Perot cavity, enabling spectrally broadband polarization control. The electrical tuning allows for a large fraction of the Poincare sphere to be covered with generated polarization states, and nearly half the Poincare sphere can be spanned with electrical tuning of the state of polarization conversion.

In-plane anisotropic optical and mechanical properties of two-dimensional MoO3

Sergio Puebla et al.

Summary: The in-plane anisotropy of molybdenum trioxide (MoO3) has attracted increasing attention from the scientific community, with observed properties stemming from the material's anisotropic refractive index and elastic constants. Raman and micro-reflectance measurements were used to determine the angular dependence of the refractive index of thin MoO3 flakes, while the directional dependence of the MoO3 Young's modulus was studied using the buckling metrology method. It was found that MoO3 exhibits one of the largest in-plane anisotropic mechanical properties reported for 2D materials.
