Expressed Protein Selenoester Ligation

Sameer S. Kulkarni et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel EPSL methodology for the semi-synthesis of modified proteins. The EPSL technology combines the rapid kinetics of ligation reactions between modified synthetic selenopeptides and protein aryl selenoesters, and in situ chemoselective deselenization to efficiently obtain target proteins at high concentrations.

Analytical and Biochemical Perspectives of Protein O-GlcNAcylation

Junfeng Ma et al.

Summary: Protein O-GlcNAcylation is an important post-translational modification that functions as a nutrient sensor and plays key roles in biochemical processes. Research on this modification has made significant progress in characterizing the components of O-GlcNAc cycling, biochemical properties of enzymes, and potential therapeutic applications. Challenges and solutions for future research in this field are also discussed.

O-GlcNAc modification of small heat shock proteins enhances their anti-amyloid chaperone activity

Aaron T. Balana et al.

Summary: The study found that O-GlcNAc can activate the anti-amyloid activity of certain small heat shock proteins, inhibiting protein aggregation. Although O-GlcNAc levels are globally reduced in Alzheimer's disease brains, the modification of relevant small heat shock proteins is either maintained or increased, suggesting a mechanism to maintain these potentially protective O-GlcNAc modifications.
