Impedimetric Hydrogel Sensor for the Identification of Hexose Using Machine Learning

Dibakar Roy et al.

Summary: This article presents a novel technique of hexose identification using a hydrogel sensor. The hydrogel uses poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and benzene-1,4-diboronic acid (1,4 BDBA) to break down boronate ester bonds when they come in contact with sugar samples, changing the gel impedance. A tree-construct algorithm is proposed to identify the hexose type, regardless of its concentration, using impedance data at 20 and 200 kHz. The algorithm includes 22 machine learning models and achieves good accuracy in identifying fructose and sucrose.

In Situ-Forming Protein-Polymer Hydrogel for Glucose-Responsive Insulin Release

Akbar Ali et al.

Summary: A straightforward fabrication strategy for glucose-responsive protein-polymer hybrid hydrogels (PPHGs) was developed. PPHGs were prepared by crosslinking polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) with various nature-abundant proteins using formylphenylboronic acid (FPBA)-based crosslinkers. The PPHGs exhibited diverse bulk rheological properties and glucose-responsive dissolution. The glucose-responsive insulin release profiles of PPHGs can be precisely engineered at the molecular level.

A Cyclodiaryliodonium NOX Inhibitor for the Treatment of Pancreatic Cancer via Enzyme-Activatable Targeted Delivery by Sulfated Glycosaminoglycan Derivatives

Jiadong Pang et al.

Summary: Diversified cyclodiaryliodonium (CDAI) NADPH oxidase (NOX) inhibitors were designed with optimal growth inhibition and CD44-targeted delivery using synthesized sulfated glycosaminoglycan derivatives. Self-assembled nanoparticle-drug conjugate (NDC) enabled controlled release and cellular trafficking. NOX inhibition reprograms metabolic phenotype and elevates cytotoxic ROS through mitochondrial membrane depolarization.

Impedimetric Hydrogel Sensor for the Identification of Hexose Using Machine Learning

Dibakar Roy et al.

Summary: This article introduces a new technique of hexose identification using a hydrogel sensor in a sugar sample. The hydrogel contains poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and benzene-1,4-diboronic acid (1,4 BDBA), which undergoes a change in gel impedance when in contact with sugar samples. A tree-construct algorithm is proposed to identify the hexose type, using impedance data at 20 and 200 kHz. The algorithm includes 22 machine learning (ML) models designed using MATLAB ML classifier toolbox, and it is validated with 300 test samples.

Environment Controls Biomolecule Release from Dynamic Covalent Hydrogels

Bruno Marco-Dufort et al.

Summary: In this study, boronic-ester-based dynamic covalent hydrogels were developed for encapsulating and releasing a model biologic. The research systematically investigated the impact of network properties and external environment on the release process, with surface erosion identified as the governing mechanism for biomolecule release. Additionally, a statistical model based on binding equilibria in the boundary layer was developed to describe the release rates. Overall, these results provide valuable insights for designing dynamic covalent hydrogels for drug delivery applications.
