Highly efficient p-i-n perovskite solar cells that endure temperature variations

Guixiang Li et al.

Summary: Daily temperature variations challenge the stability of halide perovskites in solar cells. However, by using the ordered dipolar structure of beta-poly(1,1-difluoroethylene), we were able to stabilize the perovskite black phase and improve solar cell performance. Our p-i-n perovskite solar cells achieved a record power conversion efficiency of 24.6% and retained high efficiency after exposure to various temperatures and thermal cycling.

Radical polymeric p-doping and grain modulation for stable, efficient perovskite solar modules

Shuai You et al.

Summary: High-quality perovskite light harvesters and robust organic hole extraction layers are necessary for high-performing perovskite solar cells (PSCs). The introduction of a phosphonic acid-functionalized fullerene derivative as a grain boundary modulator in mixed-cation perovskites enhances the film's tolerance against illumination, heat, and moisture. Additionally, a redox-active radical polymer, poly(oxoammonium salt), effectively p-dopes the hole-transporting material and reduces lithium ion diffusion. PSCs with power conversion efficiencies of 23.5% for 1-square-centimeter mixed-cation-anion PSCs and 21.4% for 17.1-square-centimeter minimodules were achieved, with a 95.5% retention of initial efficiencies after 3265 hours of continuous 1-sun illumination at 70±5℃.

Controlled growth of perovskite layers with volatile alkylammonium chlorides

Jaewang Park et al.

Summary: Controlling the crystallinity and surface morphology of perovskite layers is crucial for achieving high-efficiency perovskite solar cells. By adding alkylammonium chlorides (RACl) to a-formamidinium lead iodide (FAPbI(3)), the crystallization process and surface morphology of the perovskite thin films can be controlled. The resulting perovskite thin layers facilitate the fabrication of perovskite solar cells with a high power-conversion efficiency of 26.08%.

Rational design of Lewis base molecules for stable and efficient inverted perovskite solar cells

Chongwen Li et al.

Summary: Through density functional theory calculations and experimental tests, it was found that phosphine-containing molecules, including 1,3-bis(diphenylphosphino)propane (DPPP), can strongly bind and passivate undercoordinated lead atoms at interfaces and grain boundaries in metal halide perovskite solar cells. This binding leads to enhanced durability and long-term stability, as demonstrated by the PSCs retaining their high power conversion efficiency (PCE) even after extended operation or exposure to extreme conditions.

Tailoring Multifunctional Self-Assembled Hole Transporting Molecules for Highly Efficient and Stable Inverted Perovskite Solar Cells

Rui Guo et al.

Summary: A topological design of highly anisotropic aligned self-assembled hole transporting molecules (SAHTMs) based hole transporting layers (HTLs) has been demonstrated for operationally stable perovskite solar cells (PSCs) with exceptional power conversion efficiencies (PCEs). The judiciously designed SAHTMs possess both hole transporting and anchoring functions, enabling efficient charge transfer and improved stability. These SAHTMs show high affinity to the perovskite film, leading to passivation of the interface and enhanced interfacial contact, resulting in highly efficient and stable PSC devices.

Degradation of Perovskite Photovoltaics Manifested in the Cross-Sectional Potential Profile Studied by Quantitative Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy

Maki Hiraoka et al.

Summary: Kelvin probe force microscopy was used to monitor the potential profile in lead-halide perovskite photovoltaic cells. By studying various devices under different conditions, quantitative profile features were deduced and used to compare against numerical calculations. The technique was applied to devices before and after degradation, allowing the identification of degraded components and inference of performance loss sources.

Investigation of the Acceleration and Suppression of the Light-Induced Degradation of a Lead Halide Perovskite Solar Cell Using Hard X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy

Takeyuki Sekimoto et al.

Summary: Lead halide perovskite is a promising material for the next generation of solar cells. Improving photovoltaic conversion efficiency and cell durability, as well as addressing light-induced degradation, are crucial for practical use. The introduction of a buffer layer at the interfaces can effectively suppress degradation and improve the performance of perovskite solar cells.

Iodine Electrochemistry Dictates Voltage-Induced Halide Segregation Thresholds in Mixed-Halide Perovskite Devices

Zhaojian Xu et al.

Summary: Due to their straightforward stoichiometry-bandgap tunability, mixed-halide perovskites are ideal for many optoelectronic devices. However, unwanted halide segregation under operational conditions restricts practical use, and the origin of voltage-induced halide segregation is still unclear.

Interfacial Embedding for High-Efficiency and Stable Methylammonium-Free Perovskite Solar Cells with Fluoroarene Hydrazine

Dhruba B. Khadka et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new technique of interfacial passivation with pentafluorophenylhydrazine (5F-PHZ) to enhance the performance and stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). The surface treatment with 5F-PHZ improves the film chemistry and increases the carrier lifetime, resulting in a higher power conversion efficiency. This approach is effective for both narrow and wide bandgap perovskite systems.

Hole Trapping in Halide Perovskites Induces Phase Segregation

Jeffrey T. DuBose et al.

Summary: Metal halide perovskites have attracted attention for their applications in photovoltaics, LEDs, and radiation detection. However, phase segregation poses a serious challenge to the efficiency of perovskite-based devices. Strategies to slow down phase segregation, such as modifying the composition of perovskites or introducing low-dimensional perovskite phases, are needed.
