Mechanical force promotes dimethylarginine dimethylaminohydrolase 1-mediated hydrolysis of the metabolite asymmetric dimethylarginine to enhance bone formation

Ziang Xie et al.

Summary: The study reveals that mechanical force regulates bone development and remodeling by regulating the expression of Ddah1 in osteoblasts. Deletion of Ddah1 and higher ADMA concentration are negatively associated with bone mineral density. Mechanical stimulation enhances TAZ/SMAD4-induced Ddah1 transcription, promoting bone formation.

Shape memory effect in hybrid polylactide-based polymer scaffolds functionalized with reduced graphene oxide for tissue engineering

Polina A. Kovaleva et al.

Summary: In this study, the electrospun PLA-PCL scaffolds were extensively characterized to investigate the impact of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) content on morphology, structure, thermal behavior, and shape memory performance. The results showed that the addition of rGO led to changes in the structure and improved mechanical properties of the prepared composites. The electrospun hybrid PLA-PCL scaffolds with rGO exhibited pronounced shape memory effect, making them promising for tissue engineering applications.

Clark T. Hung et al.

Summary: The skeleton has the ability to remodel and repair itself in response to biophysical stimuli, allowing it to adapt to its physiological roles. Cells in the skeleton sense and respond to these stimuli to meet the demands of the organism. Mechanical strain is the most recognized stimulus, but other signals such as fluid flow and ion movements also play a role. The application of electrical and electromagnetic fields can be used to study the effects of these stimuli on cell differentiation and extracellular matrix formation.
