Achieving Tunable Organic Afterglow and UV-Irradiation-Responsive Ultralong Room-Temperature Phosphorescence from Pyridine-Substituted Triphenylamine Derivatives

Shengde Xiong et al.

Summary: A facile strategy is presented to achieve polymer-based materials with ultralong room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP), multicolor afterglow, and reversible response to UV irradiation. Pyridine-substituted triphenylamine derivatives are embedded into the polymer matrix of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). The doped PVA system exhibits excellent RTP properties with an ultralong lifetime of 798.4 ms and a high quantum yield of 15.2%, while the doped PMMA system shows reversible photoactivated ultralong RTP properties.

Unveiling the crucial contributions of electrostatic and dispersion interactions to the ultralong room-temperature phosphorescence of H-bond crosslinked poly(vinyl alcohol) films

Deliang Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the incorporation of organic phosphors into a PVA matrix to achieve room-temperature phosphorescent materials. It reveals that electrostatic and dispersion interactions play crucial roles in determining the ultralong RTP properties, shedding light on the nature of non-covalent interactions in doping PVA systems. Moreover, by simply modifying the active groups of organic phosphors, the researchers successfully achieve an ultralong RTP lifetime, providing new guiding principles for exploring amorphous organic RTP systems.

Summary: A set of metal-free room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) systems were developed using brominated phenolsulfonephthaleine derivatives, which exhibited red light excitation and the highest phosphorescence quantum yield reported so far. The RTP emission could be controlled by adding acid and alkali alternately, and a logic operation with half-subtractor function and dual-channel response was constructed based on these properties.

Long-Lived Organic Room-Temperature Phosphorescence fromAmorphous Polymer Systems

Jingjing Guo et al.

Summary: Long-lived organic room-temperature phosphorescence materials have great potential applications in various fields. Compared to traditional fluorescence, phosphorescence originates from slow radiative transitions of triplet excitons. Enhancing intersystem crossing rate and suppressing nonradiative relaxation channels can achieve efficient phosphorescence in purely organic materials. Amorphous organic polymers offer improved processability and flexibility, making them more competitive for achieving long-lived phosphorescence emission.

Tailoring Noncovalent Interactions to Activate Persistent Room-Temperature Phosphorescence from Doped Polyacrylonitrile Films

Hongzhuo Wu et al.

Summary: This study presents a rational strategy to activate wide-color ranged and persistent room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) from amorphous films by embedding electron-rich organic phosphors into an electron-deficient matrix polyacrylonitrile (PAN). The ultralong lifetime of 968.1 ms was obtained for the doped film TBB-6OMe@PAN through tailoring noncovalent interactions between the electron-deficient PAN matrix and electron-rich organic phosphors, indicating the activation of persistent RTP may be triggered by strong electrostatic interactions between the two components. Further theoretical calculations demonstrated that both electrostatic and dispersion interactions are responsible for the activation of persistent RTP in the doped films, with the doped film also showing excellent water resistance after 12 weeks.
