Stabilized Ultra-High-Temperature Sensors Based on Inert Gas-Sealed Sapphire Fiber Bragg Gratings

Jia He et al.

Summary: This paper reports the development of a thermally stabilized ultra-high-temperature sensor based on a femtosecond laser-inscribed sapphire fiber Bragg grating (SFBG), inert gas-sealed packaging, and gradient temperature-elevated annealing. The results show that the use of inert gas-sealed packaging effectively insulates the sapphire fiber from the ambient air, and the gradient temperature-elevated annealing process successfully suppresses the formation of micro-etched lines, significantly improving the surface topography of the SFBG. The sensor exhibits long-term thermal stability, with stable operation at 1600 degrees C for up to 20 hours and the ability to withstand even higher temperatures of 1800 degrees C with high sensitivity (41.2 pm/degrees C).

Microbubble end-capped fiber-optic Fabry-Perot sensors

Ricardo Defas-Brucil et al.

Summary: We present a simple fabrication technique for creating Fabry-Perot sensors with microbubbles formed within polymer drops on the tips of optical fibers. By incorporating carbon nanoparticles in the polymer layer, a microbubble aligned along the fiber core can be generated via the photo-thermal effect. These microbubble end-capped FP sensors demonstrate reproducible performance and show high sensitivity in temperature measurements and displacement sensing.

3D printed castle style Fabry-Perot microcavity on optical fiber tip as a highly sensitive humidity sensor

Mao-qing Chen et al.

Summary: A 3D printed castle style Fabry-Perot microcavity on optical fiber tip for humidity sensing was developed and experimentally demonstrated. The microcavity has periodically arranged square holes allowing for Polyvinyl Alcohol filling, creating a high sensitivity and fast response area for humidity sensing. The experimental results showed a high sensitivity of 248.9 pm/%RH with good repeatability and stability, making it a promising candidate for humidity sensing applications.
