Summary: This article describes the study of low-cost, easily integrable photodetectors based on the two-dimensional material PtSe2, which can operate in a higher wavelength range and has high responsivity and low response time. The PtSe2 photodetectors integrated by direct growth outperform those manufactured by the standard 2D layer transfer method. PtSe2 shows promising potential for optoelectronics and photonic-integrated circuits due to its infrared responsivity, chemical stability, selective and conformal growth at low temperatures, and high carrier mobility.

Anomalous Oscillating Behavior of Ultrafast Spatiotemporal Hot Carrier Diffusion in Two-Dimensional PtSe2

Sung Bok Seo et al.

Summary: This study investigates the anomalous spatiotemporal dynamics in atomically thin PtSe2 and identifies oscillating behavior that differs from ordinary systems. The oscillations are found to arise from the dynamic superposition of hot carrier diffusion and coherent lattice vibrations. Additionally, the study determines the thickness-dependent diffusivities of hot/cooled carriers and carrier cooling time constants.

Molecular beam epitaxy of PtSe2 using a co-deposition approach

Maria Hilse et al.

Summary: We studied the structural properties of co-deposited ultrathin PtSe2 films grown at low temperatures on c-plane Al2O3 using molecular beam epitaxy. By simultaneously supplying Se flux and Pt atoms, crystalline PtSe2 films were formed at optimum deposition temperatures. Postgrowth annealing under a Se flux significantly improved the crystalline quality of the films. The deposition process resulted in single layer islands that transitioned to a two-dimensional layered structure after annealing.

Doping-Free All PtSe2 Transistor via Thickness-Modulated Phase Transition

Tanmoy Das et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates high-performance all-PtSe2 FETs by vertically integrating a metallic thick PtSe2 source/drain onto the semiconducting ultrathin PtSe2 channel, successfully overcoming the metal contact issue in 2D semiconductors. The transferred metallic PtSe2 induces a semiconductor-to-metal phase transition in the underlying semiconducting PtSe2, achieving fully metallized source/drain and semiconducting channel within the same platform. The PtSe2 FETs exhibit excellent gate tunability, superior mobility, and low contact resistance, providing a new device paradigm for 2D nanoelectronics.

Tuning the charge carrier mobility in few-layer PtSe2 films by Se : Pt ratio

Jana Hrda et al.

Summary: This study presents the fabrication of horizontally aligned PtSe2 films using pre-deposited platinum layers, and identifies the Se : Pt ratio as a parameter controlling charge carrier mobility, with mobility increasing over two times around a ratio value of 2 while reducing carrier concentration simultaneously. This finding suggests that ionized impurity scattering is responsible for the observed mobility behavior in few-layer PtSe2 films, contributing to a better understanding of their transport properties.
