Changing the reaction pathway in TiO2 photocatalytic dehalogenation of halogenated aromatic pollutants by surface hydroxyl regulation

Yuanyuan Wang et al.

Summary: Understanding the photocatalytic reductive dehalogenation mechanism of halogenated aromatic pollutants is important for research. This study investigates the proton source in the photocatalytic dehalogenation process using modified TiO2 samples with different hydroxyl groups. The results show that the abundance of hydroxyl groups on the TiO2 surface affects the proton and electron transfer, and increases the efficiency of the dehalogenation process. The study also reveals that the enrichment of protons on bridging oxygen facilitates the rapid protonation and subsequent proton and electron transfer.

Confinement Matters: Stabilization of CdS Nanoparticles inside a Postmodified MOF toward Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution

Adrija Ghosh et al.

Summary: Insights into developing innovative routes for the stabilization of photogenerated charge-separated states by suppressing charge recombination in photocatalysts is a topic of immense importance. In this study, a metal-organic framework (MOF)-based composite was synthesized, where CdS nanoparticles (NPs) were confined inside the nanosized pores of Zr4+-based MOF-808. The confinement of the CdS NPs inside the MOF pores showed a higher rate of H-2 evolution from water compared to CdS NPs stabilized on the external surface of MOF-808.

Cobalt-intercalated one-dimensional nanocrystals of urea perylene imide polymer for enhanced visible-light photocatalytic water oxidation

Aihui Cao et al.

Summary: Urea perylene imide polymer (UPDI) is successfully recombined with Co(NO3)(2) molecules to form one-dimensional nanocrystals (Co-UPDI) for enhanced photocatalytic oxygen evolution (POE) under visible light. Co-UPDI exhibits a significantly higher POE rate compared to UPDI, and it achieves the highest POE among reported tests in an aqueous colloid system. The formation of heterojunction between UPDI and Co(NO3)(2) is crucial for the enhanced performance, and the CoOOH cocatalyst is formed in-situ during POE. Co-UPDI also generates more excitons with longer lifetime and has faster exciton transfer compared to UPDI nanocrystals.
