As-rigid-as-possible volume tracking for time-varying surfaces

Jan Dvorak et al.

Summary: This paper discusses an improved methodology for analyzing and computing time-consistent correspondence by tracking the volume within the surface. By modifying the energy formulation, incorporating a notion of volume element affinity, and using an improved optimization strategy, better results are achieved. Additionally, two metrics are introduced to quantify the quality of the tracking results.

Three-dimensional atomic packing in amorphous solids with liquid-like structure

Yakun Yuan et al.

Summary: Atomic electron tomography was used to experimentally determine the three-dimensional atomic structure of monatomic amorphous solids with liquid-like structure, revealing the prevalence of pentagonal bipyramid networks as the most common atomic motif. Molecular dynamics simulations further demonstrated the presence of these networks in monatomic metallic liquids.

BoolSurf: Boolean Operations on Surfaces

Marzia Riso et al.

Summary: This paper presents a method to port Boolean set operations between 2D shapes to surfaces of any genus with any number of open boundaries. By combining shapes into sets of freely intersecting loops and computing arrangements directly on the surface, it supports operations more general than standard Booleans and resolves inconsistencies in arrangements. Through discretizing input shapes and independently resolving arrangements within each triangle of the mesh, it reconstructs boundaries and interiors of cells in vector format output.

Integer Coordinates for Intrinsic Geometry Processing

Mark Gillespie et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a numerically robust data structure for encoding intrinsic triangulations of polyhedral surfaces. The integer-based structure guarantees valid correspondence, even for meshes with near-degenerate elements, and can be used as a drop-in replacement for earlier schemes to automatically improve reliability. As a stress test, the structure successfully computes an intrinsic Delaunay refinement and subdivision for all manifold meshes in the Thingi10k dataset, enabling reliable and highly accurate solutions to partial differential equations even on extremely low-quality meshes.

Computing Minimal Surfaces with Differential Forms

Stephanie Wang et al.

Summary: The algorithm reformulates the problem as a convex optimization, overcoming challenges faced by previous numerical methods, and successfully finds the global minimum across all possible surface topologies. By adopting the Alternating Direction Method of Multiplier (ADMM), it efficiently achieves global minimal surfaces.

GarmentNets: Category-Level Pose Estimation for Garments via Canonical Space Shape Completion

Cheng Chi et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a novel method, Garment-Nets, which solves the garment self-occlusion issue by formulating the pose estimation problem as a shape completion task in a canonical space. By mapping the observed partial surface to the canonical space and completing it, the method provides a complete 3D mesh representation of the garment's full configuration, utilizing a novel 3D shape representation using the generalized winding number field.
