Preparation of γ-Al2O3/α-Al2O3 ceramic foams as catalyst carriers via the replica technique

Vladimir Shumilov et al.

Summary: This work presents an effective method for preparing open-cell ceramic foams using a polyurethane sponge replica technique, ceramic suspension, and polyvinyl alcohol solution. The ceramic carriers were modified with NaOH etching, colloidal silica coating, and gamma-alumina layer, followed by impregnation of an active catalytic phase (Pt). The catalytic properties and applicability of the foam catalysts were demonstrated through hydrogenation experiments.
