Peaberry and normal coffee bean classification using CNN, SVM, and KNN: Their implementation in and the limitations of Raspberry Pi 3

Hira Lal Gope et al.

Summary: Peaberries are a special type of coffee bean with an oval shape that can be classified using image processing and machine learning techniques. This study examined the implementation and limitations of these techniques on Raspberry Pi 3, and found that the modified CNN architecture outperformed linear SVM and KNN in terms of classification accuracy. The combination of CNN and Raspberry Pi 3 shows promise for a cost-effective sorting system for peaberries and normal beans in underdeveloped countries.

Genomic and transcriptomic inventory of membrane transporters in coffee: Exploring molecular mechanisms of metabolite accumulation

Renan T. Pinto et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the transportome of Coffea canephora and identified potential transporters involved in the accumulation of specialized metabolites, providing insights for genetic breeding strategies. Through comprehensive co-expression analysis, the study revealed key transporters associated with beverage quality and bioactivity attributes. Overall, the research suggests possibilities for genetic and transcriptomic data mining in Coffea for developing resilient varieties in sustainable coffee production systems.

Polygalacturonase45 cleaves pectin and links cell proliferation and morphogenesis to leaf curvature in Arabidopsis thaliana

Yang Yang et al.

Summary: The study explores the functions of Arabidopsis PG45 in organ morphogenesis, revealing its significant role in leaf and flower structure, branch formation, and organ growth. Knockout and overexpression of PG45 result in altered leaf morphology and impaired cell proliferation, accompanied by changes in pectin metabolism and OG profiles. These findings underscore a previously unrecognized function for PGs in tissue polarity determination and cell proliferation regulation, suggesting the presence of OG-based signaling pathways in modulating plant development.
