Land use and land cover as a conditioning factor in landslide susceptibility: a literature review

Renata Pacheco Quevedo et al.

Summary: LULC plays an important role in landslide susceptibility models, but the relationship between LULC and landslides has not been widely explored despite growing interest in the field. Most research articles on this topic come from Asian countries and often involve international collaboration. Major research themes include LULC data characteristics, simulated scenarios of LULC changes, and the role of future scenarios for both LULC and landslide susceptibility.

Deadly disasters in southeastern South America: flash floods andlandslides of February 2022 in Petropolis, Rio de Janeiro

Enner Alcantara et al.

Summary: On February 15, 2022, the city of Petropolis in Brazil experienced heavy rainfall, leading to flash floods and landslides. The average monthly rainfall for February 2022 was the highest in Petropolis since 1932. Factors such as slope angle, soil moisture, terrain attributes, and urban growth were found to be related to the occurrence of landslides.

GIS-Multicriteria Analysis Using AHP to Evaluate the Landslide Risk in Road Lifelines

Giovanni Leonardi et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a new methodology to assess the landslide susceptibility of the Reggio Calabria metropolitan area. By using various factors and the AHP method with GIS devices, the landslide risk for the entire area was classified and defined, resulting in a landslide susceptibility map. The study reveals a high landslide risk in the region.

Demarcation of Forest Fire Risk Zones in Silent Valley National Park and the Effectiveness of Forest Management Regime

K. Amrutha et al.

Summary: Wildfires pose a major threat to the protected areas in the Western Ghats. This study used the AHP method to map the fire risk zones and evaluate the effectiveness of forest management in fire prevention. The results showed that a significant number of fires occur in high-risk areas and that the forest management initiatives are effective in the core zone of the national park. The findings of this study will assist decision-makers in implementing fire prevention measures.

The influence of land use/land cover variability and rainfall intensity in triggering landslides: a back-analysis study via physically based models

Frederico F. Avila et al.

Summary: The study used physically based models to analyze factors influencing slope instability and landslides in the Bengalar Stream basin in São Paulo, Brazil. The FS FIORI and TRIGRS models showed similar results, with TRIGRS identifying more unstable areas than FS FIORI in two scenarios.

Landslide Susceptibility Zonation of Idukki District Using GIS in the Aftermath of 2018 Kerala Floods and Landslides: a Comparison of AHP and Frequency Ratio Methods

Anjana V. Thomas et al.

Summary: This study aimed to delineate landslide susceptible zones using AHP and FR methods, with FR method found to be more effective in predicting landslide susceptible zones in Idukki district. The study also highlighted the usefulness of landslide susceptibility maps for land use planners and policymakers in adopting mitigation measures.

Application of GIS and AHP Method in Forest Fire Risk Zone Mapping: a Study of the Parambikulam Tiger Reserve, Kerala, India

S. Nikhil et al.

Summary: The study aims to demarcate fire risk zones using GIS techniques, evaluate the impact of various factors on fire initiation, and create a fire risk zone map divided into five risk zones. Validation of the map using fire incidence data from 2002 to 2020 shows that a majority of fires occur in high and very high-risk zones. The prepared fire risk zone map will assist planners, forest officials, and disaster management departments in implementing appropriate mitigation measures to prevent future forest fires.

Landslide susceptibility mapping using AHP and fuzzy methods in the Gilan province, Iran

Yousef Bahrami et al.

Summary: This study utilized AHP and fuzzy methods to map landslide susceptibility in Gilan province, finding that 29.53% and 36.53% of the total area were considered high and very high-risk areas, respectively. The AUC values for AHP and fuzzy maps were 92.4 and 91.9, indicating high prediction accuracy.
