Overcoming Acidic H2O2/Fe(II/III) Redox-Induced Low H2O2 Utilization Efficiency by Carbon Quantum Dots Fenton-like Catalysis

Ting Zhang et al.

Summary: Fenton reaction plays important roles in biological and environmental remediation, but the low efficiency of H2O2/Fe(II/III) oxidation under acidic conditions limits its application. The study reveals that carbon quantum dots (CQDs) exhibit a higher H2O2 utilization efficiency and can improve the selectivity of toxic intermediates. Furthermore, the CQDs-Fe(III)/H2O2 process is less affected by inorganic ions and dissolved organic matter (DOM) in groundwater.

Redox Properties of Pyrogenic Dissolved Organic Matter (pyDOM) from Biomass-Derived Chars

Wenqing Xu et al.

Summary: This study systematically assessed the quantity and redox properties of pyDOM released from chars pyrolyzed from wood and grass feedstocks. The results showed that the amount of released pyDOM decreased with increasing pyrolysis temperature of chars, and pyDOM exhibited higher electron-donating capacities than electron-accepting capacities. The optical properties and low metal contents of the pyDOM suggest that phenols and quinones may be the major redox-active moieties present in pyDOM.
