Influences of agro-wastes on the physico-mechanical and durability properties of unfired clay blocks

Nusrat Jannat et al.

Summary: This study explored the utilization of agricultural wastes in the production of unfired clay blocks, finding that Eggshell Powder performed best at 40% content, while Sawdust Powder and Coconut Husk Powder showed better performance at 2.5% content. However, overall characteristics deteriorated when all three wastes were used together, although the samples still met strength requirements and passed durability tests.

The state of earthen housing worldwide: how development affects attitudes and adoption

Alastair T. M. Marsh et al.

Summary: Earthen housing is prevalent globally, especially in developing countries. Negative perceptions and demographic changes contribute to the decline of earthen housing relative to non-earthen housing. Countries with higher levels of development tend to have lower prevalence of earthen housing.

Impact of various sands and fibres on the physical and mechanical properties of earth mortars for plasters and renders

Matthieu Pedergnana et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the studies on earth mortars, and experiments show that the impact of adding sand or fibre is positive on shrinkage but negative on mechanical strength. Specifically, while 5% chaff improves flexural and compressive strength, increasing fibre content beyond 10% leads to a reduction in compressive strength, and beyond 20% also reduces flexural strength.

Eco-efficient earth plasters: The effect of sand grading and additions on fresh and mechanical properties

Tania Santos et al.

Summary: Earth-based plasters can be eco-efficient, but adding phase change materials may affect workability and mechanical strength, while oat fibers do not show improvement in these aspects. It is important to consider the advantages and disadvantages of different additives in earth-based plasters for optimal performance.

Experimental evaluation of adobe mixtures reinforced with jute fibers

G. Araya-Letelier et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of incorporating jute fibers into adobe mixtures, finding that it improved properties such as cracking control, flexural toughness, and water erosion resistance. However, higher dosages of jute fibers also increased capillary water absorption, potentially affecting the durability of the adobe mixtures.
