Identification of fountain pen ink properties which determine the amount put on paper during handwriting

Ines Fritz

Summary: Handwriting with a modern fountain pen offers a unique experience, involving tactile perception, visual impression, and ink wetness. Quantitative analysis of ink consumption data and physical and chemical properties reveals that ink wetness is primarily dependent on surface tension, followed by viscosity and conductivity, with unexpected correlations.
