Deep Learning Meets Deep Democracy: Deliberative Governance and Responsible Innovation in Artificial Intelligence

Summary: Responsible innovation in artificial intelligence requires public deliberation, but challenges arise due to the opacity of AI and the knowledge boundaries between experts and citizens. This article presents a new framework of responsibilities for AI innovation and a deliberative governance approach to address these challenges. It demonstrates how actors from the AI industry can effectively engage with experts and nonexperts in different social venues to achieve informed judgments and democratic governance of opaque AI systems.

This paper proposes applying "responsible research and innovation" (RRI) to shape responsible innovation systems, drawing on discussions of the ethics of artificial intelligence (AI).

Adaptive cognitive fit: Artificial intelligence augmented management of information facets and representations

This study aims to understand the interplay between dominant information facets, information representations, and tasks, and their influence on human performance. The authors propose and test a novel Adaptive Cognitive Fit (ACF) framework that explores the impact of information facets and AI-augmented information representations on human performance. Empirical validation through an economic experiment and a machine learning simulation demonstrates the influence of information facets and the potential of using AI to improve human performance.

Mutuality in AI-enabled new public service solutions
