Summary: The study found that the control measures implemented in Ireland for CPE had a positive impact on the incidence of CPE cases over two years, particularly in the acute HSE hospital system. The increase in screening samples led to more CPE cases being detected, but the incidence of CPE cases per 1000 screens decreased.

Mortality-related factors in patients with OXA-48 carbapenemase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteremia

Summary: This study evaluated the risk factors associated with 14-day mortality for patients with bacteremia due to OXA-48 carbapenemase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae. The independent factors associated with 14-day mortality included an INCREMENT-CPE score ≥ 7, a rapidly fatal prognosis (McCabe), dementia, and a high-risk source of infection. No relationship was found between a poorer outcome and CRKp isolation or inadequate antibiotic therapy.
