Risk factors, immune response and whole-genome sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 in a cruise ship outbreak in Norway

Kirsten Gravningen et al.

Summary: This study reveals the high risk of SARS-CoV-2 transmission on cruise ships, which is associated with workplace and cabin type. The findings suggest that implementing immediate infection control measures at the final destination can prevent continued community transmission after an outbreak.

Initial impact of a national programme to contain the spread of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales in Ireland

A. Vellinga et al.

Summary: The study found that the control measures implemented in Ireland for CPE had a positive impact on the incidence of CPE cases over two years, particularly in the acute HSE hospital system. The increase in screening samples led to more CPE cases being detected, but the incidence of CPE cases per 1000 screens decreased.

Continuous Evolution: Perspective on the Epidemiology of Carbapenemase Resistance Among Enterobacterales and Other Gram-Negative Bacteria

Glen T. Hansen

Summary: Carbapenems are antibiotics used to treat Gram-negative bacteria infections, but carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) have emerged globally, posing a significant public health issue. Different types of carbapenemase enzymes are spreading rapidly, requiring active surveillance and therapeutic strategies.

Mortality-related factors in patients with OXA-48 carbapenemase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteremia

O. Lima Rodriguez et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the risk factors associated with 14-day mortality for patients with bacteremia due to OXA-48 carbapenemase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae. The independent factors associated with 14-day mortality included an INCREMENT-CPE score ≥ 7, a rapidly fatal prognosis (McCabe), dementia, and a high-risk source of infection. No relationship was found between a poorer outcome and CRKp isolation or inadequate antibiotic therapy.

Evolving epidemiology of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales: one hospital's infection prevention and control response over nine years

M. Foley et al.

Summary: This study assessed the evolution of infection prevention and control measures in a tertiary acute care hospital with predominantly multi-bedded patient accommodation as cases of CPE increased. Despite considerable efforts by the IPCT, the number of CPE cases is increasing year-on-year, with more outbreaks being reported in later years.
