Experimental and numerical investigation on hydrological characteristics of extensive green roofs under the influence of rainstorms

Jun Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, the hydrological performance of green roofs with different water storage layer depths was analyzed through simulated rainfall experiments. The results showed that the depth of the water storage layer is the most sensitive parameter affecting rainwater retention and initial drainage time. A 25-mm water storage layer was found to increase rainwater retention capacity and delay drainage time, resulting in a reduction in peak drainage rate.

Constraining the increased frequency of global precipitation extremes under warming

Chad W. Thackeray et al.

Summary: Climate change is causing more frequent and intense precipitation extremes. By using climate models, researchers have developed an emergent constraint that suggests a 32% increase in the frequency of precipitation extremes by the end of the century. This relationship between past and future changes in precipitation extremes can help constrain future projections and reduce uncertainties in climate models.

Assessing the long-term effectiveness of Nature-Based Solutions under different climate change scenarios

Eulalia Gomez Martin et al.

Summary: This study emphasizes the importance of developing scientifically-based and customized information on climate change impacts as a precondition for designing and implementing Nature-Based Solutions (NBS). A System Dynamic model was developed to analyze the dynamic behavior of NBS in response to different scenarios of climate change and socio-economic contexts.

Evapotranspiration Measurements and Assessment of Driving Factors: A Comparison of Different Green Roof Systems during Summer in Germany

Dominik Goessner et al.

Summary: Green roofs are effective in mitigating peak temperatures and controlling floods in urban areas. Differentiating between various green roof systems is important for sustainable city design. This study demonstrates differences among green roof systems based on microclimatic measurements and highlights the importance of specifying their characteristics for climate-change-resilient cities.

The potential of Blue-Green infrastructure as a climate change adaptation strategy: a systematic literature review

Tamer Almaaitah et al.

Summary: Recent research indicates that Blue-Green Infrastructure (BGI) is effective in controlling urban runoff and mitigating urban heat, with literature slightly more focused on stormwater management than urban heat island mitigation. Future studies will need to further explore the performance of BGI, especially on smaller urban scales.
