Benchmarking Autonomous Scattering Experiments Illustrated on TAS

Mario Teixeira Parente et al.

Summary: With the advancement of AI and machine learning, autonomous scattering experiments have great potential. To increase acceptance within the scientific community, it is crucial for these approaches to provide evidence of performance improvements. Therefore, a benchmarking procedure is proposed, which sequentially collects data during an experiment and applies cost-benefit analysis. Different methods can be compared and their advantages made explicit and visible. The cost measures, benefit measures, and test cases are defined for three-axes spectrometry (TAS) as an example.

Monitoring residual strain relaxation and preferred grain orientation of additively manufactured Inconel 625 by in-situ neutron imaging

A. S. Tremsin et al.

Summary: The microstructures produced by Additive Manufacturing techniques play a crucial role in determining the characteristics of components. Residual stress and texture are important factors that need to be optimized. Post-build heat treatments are essential for relieving residual stresses and developing necessary microstructures for strength. Energy-resolved neutron imaging is utilized in this study to investigate the uniformity of as-built texture and residual strain distributions within Inconel 625 samples during vacuum stress relief heat treatment. Despite some challenges in accurately reconstructing lattice strain during sample annealing, the results suggest that strain relaxation occurs at different rates at 700 degrees C and 875 degrees C.
