Long-term seawater anti-corrosion properties of Al alloy triggered by femtosecond laser structuring with phase change

Rahul A. Rajan et al.

Summary: By adopting a technique of femtosecond laser micro/nano-structuring, the surface of aluminium alloy material has been successfully modified into long-term stable anti-corrosive properties, with a measured corrosion rate two orders of magnitude smaller than the bare sample. This is attributed to the formation of surface micro/nano-structure with thick stable oxide layers and significant phase change from crystalline to amorphous induced by laser stress and compressive strain.

Super-regular femtosecond laser nanolithography based on dual-interface plasmons coupling

Hongbo Xie et al.

Summary: Advances in femtosecond laser-material interaction have enabled the development of a hybrid plasmon lithography technique, where near-infrared femtosecond laser pulses are used to create nanograting structures on Si coated with thin Cr films. The unique structures are attributed to the excitation of dual-interface coupled plasmons in the thin metal layer, leading to deep-subwavelength patterns and high aspect ratio grooves. By modifying the structures with wet etching, the resulting V-profiles exhibit near omnidirectional antireflection in the visible range, showing potential for advanced photonic devices.
