Zinc oxide nanoparticles synthesized using Oldenlandia Umbellata leaf extract and their photocatalytic and biological characteristics

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the environmentally friendly green production of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) using Oldenlandia Umbellata (OU) leaves extract, and to examine their photo catalytic and biological activities. Various characterization techniques were utilized to analyze the purity and properties of as synthesized ZnO NPs. The results demonstrated that OU-ZnO NPs exhibited excellent photo catalytic, antioxidant, and antimicrobial activities.

Green chemistry offers environmentally friendly, biocompatible, nontoxic, and economically effective methods for the synthesis of nanomaterials. This review highlights recent developments in the green synthesis of nanomaterials using different microbes and plants, discusses their applications in food and textile industries, water treatment, and biomedical field, and explores future perspectives for advancing their production and applications.

Antifungal Activity of Mycogenic Silver Nanoparticles on Clinical Yeasts and Phytopathogens

Summary: In this study, seven different silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were obtained from fungi species isolated from Brazilian biodiversity. The nanoparticles were characterized and found to have homogeneous size, negative charge, and protein coating on their surface. The antifungal activity of the AgNPs was evaluated on various yeast and phytopathogen strains, and the results indicated promising potential as antifungal agents. The physicochemical parameters of the AgNPs, including the functional groups present on their surface, were found to influence their antifungal activity.

Potential Antimicrobial and Antibiofilm Properties of Copper Oxide Nanoparticles: Time-Kill Kinetic Essay and Ultrastructure of Pathogenic Bacterial Cells

Summary: In this study, copper oxide nanoparticles (CuONPs) were successfully synthesized from the live cell filtrate of the fungus Penicillium chrysogenum. The synthesized CuONPs were characterized using various techniques, and their antibacterial and anti-biofilm activities were evaluated. The results showed that CuONPs exhibited excellent anti-biofilm ability against Klebsiella oxytoca and Escherichia coli, but had limited efficacy against Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus cereus.

Iron tolerant Bacillus badius mediated bimetallic magnetic iron oxide and gold nanoparticles as Doxorubicin carrier and for hyperthermia treatment

Summary: In this study, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles (IOMNPs), and bimetallic gold-magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (Au-IOMNPs) were synthesized using the iron-tolerant bacterium Bacillus badius. The Au-IOMNPs functionalized with doxorubicin showed cytotoxicity against MCF7 cells, with an IC50 value of 147 μg/mL. In addition, the IOMNPs showed potential for hyperthermia treatment, with a temperature rise up to 48 degrees Celsius under an applied current of 400 Oe.

Therapeutic role of biogenic silver and gold nanoparticles against a DMH-induced colon cancer model

Moreover, they effectively prevent cancer cell metastasis, downregulate signaling molecules of the Wnt pathway, and upregulate apoptotic molecules' expression levels. Summary: This study aimed to prepare nickel oxide supported on silica nanoparticles incorporated polylactic acid bio nanocomposite films and study the effects of different concentrations of nickel oxide on their properties. The results showed that the bio nanocomposite film had the highest tensile strength and significantly improved barrier properties at 1 wt% concentration. The incorporation of nickel oxide also increased the surface color and opacity, and showed good antibacterial activity. Therefore, these bio nanocomposite films can be used as excellent packaging materials for food.
