Quality of life in parents of seriously Ill/injured children: a prospective longitudinal study

Ella Graj et al.

Summary: This study examined the quality of life of parents of children with serious childhood illness or injury, finding that parents had poor quality of life at the time of diagnosis but it normalized seven months later, with the most noticeable improvement in the psychosocial domain. Factors such as reduced acute stress symptoms and increased psychological flexibility were associated with higher parent QoL at diagnosis, while increased perceived emotional resources predicted enhanced parent QoL at seven months. Pediatric medical care teams should prioritize parents reporting acute stress symptoms for intervention and provide psychosocial and educative support for parent-dyads presenting with poor emotional resources post-acute care.

Factors related to length of stay, referral on discharge and hospital readmission for children and adolescents with anorexia nervosa

Ang Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated factors related to hospital length of stay, reported referral on discharge, and hospital readmission for children and adolescents admitted to public hospitals in Australia for anorexia nervosa. Findings showed that AN as a primary diagnosis and certain co-occurring conditions led to longer hospital stays, with most patients referred to primary care physicians and some to outpatient mental health or eating disorder services. Factors like male gender, low socioeconomic status, co-occurring illnesses, and rural locations were associated with an increased likelihood of readmission.
