Trends in hospitalisation for common paediatric infections: An Australian experience

Initial results from an enhanced recovery program for pediatric cardiac surgical patients

Summary: In recent years, enhanced recovery programs have gained popularity in adult colorectal surgery and other surgical specialties. This approach has also been adopted in pediatric intestinal and cardiac surgeries. This study presents the implementation of an enhanced recovery pathway based on the ERAS(R) methodology for selected pediatric cardiac surgical patients in a Level 1 pediatric cardiac surgical center. The preliminary results show that the implementation of this pathway is feasible and yields acceptable outcomes.

Quality of life in parents of seriously Ill/injured children: a prospective longitudinal study

Summary: This study examined the quality of life of parents of children with serious childhood illness or injury, finding that parents had poor quality of life at the time of diagnosis but it normalized seven months later, with the most noticeable improvement in the psychosocial domain. Factors related to length of stay, referral on discharge and hospital readmission for children and adolescents with anorexia nervosa
