Silver-Catalyzed Direct Nucleophilic Cyclization: Enantioselective De Novo Synthesis of C-C Axially Chiral 2-Arylindoles

Liangbin Yu et al.

Summary: By using a chiral silver phosphate catalyst, a direct 5-endo-dig nucleophilic cyclization of 2-alkynylanilins was achieved under mild conditions, leading to the synthesis of various C-C axially chiral 2arylindoles with high yields and enantioselectivities. Control experiments showed the cooperative catalysis of AgOAc and chiral phosphoric acid, with the former accelerating the desired transformation and the latter improving enantioselectivity. Additionally, the synthetic applications and thermal stability of the products were investigated, making it the first example of silver-catalyzed enantioselective de novo synthesis of C-C axially chiral indole skeletons.

H-Bonded Counterion-Directed Enantioselective Au(I) Catalysis

Allegra Franchino et al.

Summary: A new strategy for enantioselective transition-metal catalysis is presented, where precise positioning of chiral counteranions responsible for asymmetric induction is achieved by placing a H-bond donor on the ligand of a cationic complex. This paradigm was successfully implemented in 5-exo-dig and 6-endo-dig cyclizations of 1,6-enynes, allowing the use of chiral anions in Au(I)-catalyzed reactions of challenging alkyne substrates. Experimental evidence confirmed the crucial H-bonding interaction at the heart of the catalytic system.

Confinement-Induced Selectivities in Gold(I) Catalysis-The Benefit of Using Bulky Tri-(ortho-biaryl)phosphine Ligands

Karim Muratov et al.

Summary: In this research, a new class of structurally simple and easily accessible bulky tri-(ortho-biaryl)phosphine ligands and their gold(I) complexes were synthesized. Their confined nature was demonstrated through X-ray diffraction analysis and comparative evaluation. Despite their notable steric congestion, these complexes exhibited remarkable catalytic activities and unusual selectivities, making them unique in the field of synthetic homogeneous gold catalysis.

Planar Chiral 1,3-Disubstituted Ferrocenyl Phosphine Gold(I) Catalysts

Ulysse Caniparoli et al.

Summary: Planar chiral monodentate 1,3-disubstituted ferrocene phosphines inspired by JohnPhos-type ligands have been synthesized and applied for the enantioselective gold(I) catalyzed [4 + 2] cycloaddition of 1,6-arylenynes. Computational studies elucidated the working mode of the catalyst, involving attractive noncovalent interactions that induce the folding of the substrate in the chiral environment of the ligand.

Dicoordinate Au(I)-Ethylene Complexes as Hydroamination Catalysts

Miquel Navarro et al.

Summary: A series of gold(I)-ethylene pi-complexes containing bulky phosphine ligands have been synthesized, and the importance of these ligands in stabilizing the gold(I)-ethylene bond and preventing decomposition has been discovered. By improving the catalyst structure and reaction conditions, the catalytic performance in the hydroamination of ethylene can be enhanced.

Enantioselective Alkoxycyclization of 1,6-Enynes with Gold(I)-Cavitands: Total Synthesis of Mafaicheenamine C

Inmaculada Martin-Torres et al.

Summary: Chiral gold(I)-cavitand complexes exhibit high enantioselectivity in the enantioselective alkoxycyclization of 1,6-enynes, which is significant for the synthesis of carbazole alkaloids. Furthermore, the cavity effect of the gold(I) complexes induces constrained conformations of enynes in the cycloisomerization of dienynes, leading to high stereoselectivity.

Gold-catalysed asymmetric net addition of unactivated propargylic C-H bonds to tethered aldehydes

Ting Li et al.

Summary: Through cooperative gold catalysis enabled by a special ligand, intramolecular asymmetric functionalization of unactivated propargylic C-H bonds has been achieved, yielding chiral cyclopentane/cyclohexane-fused homopropargylic alcohols with excellent enantiomeric excesses. The reaction shows a broad scope, high stereoselectivity and is realized under mild reaction conditions. Density functional theory studies support the reaction mechanism and confirm metal-ligand cooperation.

Recent Advances in Catalytic Asymmetric Construction of Atropisomers

Jun Kee Cheng et al.

Summary: Atropisomerism is a stereochemical behavior exhibited by three-dimensional molecules with rotationally restricted sigma bonds, and compounds with atropisomerically chiral properties are increasingly utilized in fields where molecular asymmetry is influential. There is a steady demand for atroposelective synthesis, leading to conceptually novel and streamlined methods for expanding the structural diversity of atropisomers. This review summarizes key achievements in the stereoselective preparation of biaryl, heterobiaryl, and nonbiaryl atropisomers between 2015 and 2020, emphasizing synthetic strategies for each structural class and potential applications of atropochiral targets.

Highly Sterically Encumbered Gold Acyclic Diaminocarbene Complexes: Overriding Electronic Control in Regiodivergent Gold Catalysis

Aaron A. Ruch et al.

Summary: The study synthesized sterically encumbered gold(I) acyclic diaminocarbene (ADC) complexes with different ligands and found that the bulky biaryl/terphenyl groups strongly influence product selectivity in gold-catalyzed reactions. The research also revealed how large aryl groups impact reaction mechanisms.

A dicoordinate gold(i)-ethylene complex

Miquel Navarro et al.

Summary: In this study, the first dicoordinate gold(i)-ethylene adduct was isolated and characterized using a bulky tris-2-(4,4 '-di-tert-butylbiphenylyl)phosphine ligand. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations showed that pi-backdonation plays a minor role in its bonding situation compared to tricoordinate analogues.
