Optimization of Large-Scale Battery Storage Capacity in Conjunction with Photovoltaic Systems for Maximum Self-Sustainability

Qusay Hassan et al.

Summary: The photovoltaic array is becoming more popular in the global electrical market, and battery storage is being used alongside it by energy consumers. By utilizing central battery storage and an integrated grid or microgrid system, domestic and community loads can share solar power. The study found that self-consumption and self-sufficiency vary significantly depending on the system configuration, with properly designed photovoltaic systems achieving energy self-consumption rates of up to 90.19% and self-sufficiency rates of up to 82.55%. A large sample size and various setups are recommended for a thorough examination of self-sustainability.

Do energy consumption, urbanization, and industrialization play a role in environmental degradation in the case of Saudi Arabia?

Bassem Kahouli et al.

Summary: This study empirically explores the relationship between energy consumption, environmental degradation, trade, industrialization, urbanization, and economic growth in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from 1971 to 2019. The findings indicate that an increase in energy consumption and environmental degradation promotes economic growth, but energy consumption also contributes significantly to environmental deterioration. Additionally, there is a long-term feedback effect among the different variables. In the short term, energy use, trade, and urbanization have a Granger-causal relationship with economic growth, while economic growth, environment, industrialization, and urbanization Granger-cause energy consumption. Saudi policymakers should consider the leading role of trade, urbanization, and industrialization in improving economic growth and harming environmental quality and implement efficient energy policies.

Evaluate the adequacy of self-consumption for sizing photovoltaic system

Qusay Hassan

Summary: In this research, the sizing of the on-grid photovoltaic system capacity based on maximum energy self-consumption for a household in Diyala state, Iraq, is studied. The simulation process conducted using MATLAB evaluates the optimal system capacity for two different setting positions. The results show that selecting the appropriate tilt angle and tracking system can significantly improve energy self-sufficiency and reduce energy costs, providing an effective approach for sizing storage and renewable energy components in future applications.

The paradox of the energy revolution in China: A socio-technical transition perspective

Shengqing Xu

Summary: China is undergoing an energy revolution with a goal for renewable energy to comprise 50% of energy consumption by 2050 and to reduce carbon intensity by 60-65% by 2030 from the 2005 level. The paradox of limited renewable energy and expanding fossil energy hinders the challenge to fossil energy dominance in the short term, despite progress made in renewable energy development. This energy transition requires proper mechanisms to accelerate the process while balancing the inertia and importance of traditional energy industries.

Barriers facing the transition toward sustainable energy system in Kuwait

Osamah A. Alsayegh

Summary: Despite Kuwait's announcement in 2012 to meet 15% of its local energy demand from renewable sources by 2030, progress has been slow with current annual renewable energy generation less than 1%. The development towards a sustainable energy system faces barriers such as lack of political will, legal and regulatory frameworks, proper financing policies, and the perception of renewable energy's impact on the economy.

Aging effects on modelling and operation of a photovoltaic system with hydrogen storage

Bartosz Ceran et al.

Summary: The research analyzed the aging effects on a photovoltaic system with hydrogen storage in terms of energy production decrease and additional hydrogen demand over 10 years of operation. The results showed a total degradation of the system described by a proposed parameter, as well as specific degradation ratios for components like fuel cells and electrolysers. The performance decline of the system was found to be non-linear and dependent on load profile and PV module types.
