Mapping genomic loci implicates genes and synaptic biology in schizophrenia

Vassily Trubetskoy et al.

Summary: In this study, a two-stage genome-wide association study was conducted to identify common variants associated with schizophrenia. The results revealed 287 distinct genomic loci and 120 genes likely to be involved in the development of schizophrenia. This research provides valuable insights into the pathophysiology of schizophrenia and offers a resource for further mechanistic studies.

Paraneoplastic Cerebellar Degeneration With P/Q-VGCC vs Yo Autoantibodies

Michael Winklehner et al.

Summary: This study compared the neuropathologic features of patients with paraneoplastic cerebellar degeneration (PCD) with anti-P/Q-VGCC and anti-Yo autoantibodies. Anti-Yo-PCD showed widespread and diffuse loss of brain neural cells, with microglial nodules and T cell activation, while anti-P/Q-VGCC-PCD showed focal loss of cells with specific localization. The findings suggest a T cell-mediated pathology in anti-Yo-PCD and a pathogenic role of anti-P/Q-VGCC autoantibodies causing neuronal dysfunction.
