The Role of Socioeconomic Factors on Women's Risk of Being Exposed to Intimate Partner Violence

Summary: The most important finding about intimate partner violence (IPV) in the past 20 years is that violence is closely related to gender, and it can only be understood in the context of gender inequality. Legal reforms and policies have been implemented in the past decade to promote gender equality. However, the study found that the impact of women's annual income and labor force participation on IPV is unclear.

The Effect of Intimate Partner Violence on the Physical Health and Health-Related Behaviors of Women: A Systematic Review of the Literature

Summary: Research shows that intimate partner violence has negative effects on women's physical health, including worsening menopausal symptoms, increasing the risk of diabetes, contracting sexually transmitted infections, engaging in risky behaviors, developing chronic diseases and pain. It also impacts HIV outcomes. Further long-term studies are needed in this field to better inform healthcare for women who have experienced IPV.

The Effect of Female Economic Empowerment Interventions on the Risk of Intimate Partner Violence: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Summary: Women's economic empowerment is crucial for achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and has the potential to reduce intimate partner violence (IPV). The relationship between economic empowerment and the risk of IPV is subject to debate. A meta-analysis of 19 randomized controlled trials shows that women's economic empowerment is associated with a significant reduction in emotional, sexual, and physical IPV. However, there is evidence that some interventions may increase IPV in the form of controlling behavior and dominance over financial resources. It is important to prioritize women's safety and closely monitor potential risks in designing economic empowerment programs.

Factors Associated with Domestic Violence in Rural Bangladesh

Summary: This study aims to determine the factors associated with women's experience of domestic violence in rural Bangladesh. The results show that factors such as age at marriage, lack of support from household members, visit from NGO health professionals, number of children, and women's decision-making power at the household level are significantly associated with reporting of domestic violence. Additionally, household food insecurity is strongly associated with domestic violence, especially among poor families.

Exploring Intimate Partner Violence Among Women Attending Malaysian Primary Care Clinics

Summary: This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of intimate partner violence (IPV) among women attending urban primary care services in Malaysia and to identify the risk factors associated with IPV. The results showed that women affected by IPV are more likely to come from lower income households, have witnessed parental IPV, receive less social support, and have poorer psychological well-being.

Women's Attitude and Its Influence on Violence During Pregnancy in Northern State of Peninsular Malaysia: Cross-Sectional Study

Summary: The study found that more than one third of women experienced violence during pregnancy, with psychological violence being the most common. Factors such as drug use, exposure to violence during childhood, higher parity, and inadequate antenatal care increased the risk. Attitudes supporting violence, such as justifying hitting a wife in certain conditions, were also identified. Intervention is necessary to combat men's violence against pregnant women.

Examining Spatial Variability in the Association Between Male Partner Alcohol Misuse and Intimate Partner Violence Against Women in Ghana: A GWR Analysis

Sexual and Reproductive Health Outcomes of Violence Against Women and Girls in Lower-Income Countries: A Review of Reviews

Summary: Research on adolescent girls and young women in low- and middle-income countries shows that gender-based violence leads to negative outcomes such as more sexual partners, gynecological conditions, unwanted pregnancies, and abortions. Some types of violence are also linked to increased use of contraception and STI prevention measures. Addressing gender-based violence is crucial to improving sexual and reproductive health for women and girls in LMICs.
