Contact guidance via heterogeneity of substrate elasticity

Alberto Ippolito et al.

Summary: Cell alignment, known as contact guidance, is an important step in the organization of adherent cells. By modeling the response of cells on substrates with alternating soft and stiff stripes, researchers have identified three different mechanisms of cell guidance. Guidance towards stiff stripes is primarily due to molli-avoidance behavior, while decreased collagen density inhibits contact guidance.

Amelogenin-Derived Peptide (ADP-5) Hydrogel for Periodontal Regeneration: An In Vitro Study on Periodontal Cells Cytocompatibility, Remineralization and Inflammatory Profile

Nina Attik et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of a synthetic amelogenin-derived peptide (ADP-5) on periodontal cell behavior and compared it to a commercial gel Emdogain((R)). The findings showed that ADP-5 enhanced cell proliferation and remineralization, and the ADP-5 experimental hydrogel exhibited similar biological behavior to Emdogain((R)) in terms of cell colonization, mineralization, and inflammatory profile.

Steering cell behavior through mechanobiology in 3D: A regenerative medicine perspective

Jip Zonderland et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the role of mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) in mechanotransduction and the impact of different material properties on cellular behavior and mechanobiology in 2D and 3D environments. While stiffness plays a dominant role in MSCs differentiation in 2D, matrix remodeling appears to be key in 3D differentiation.

Periodontal Wound Healing and Tissue Regeneration: A Narrative Review

Young-Dan Cho et al.

Summary: Periodontal disease is a significant public health issue, with most periodontal surgeries being invasive procedures involving resection of gingiva or alveolar bone. The periodontal wound healing process is similar to fetal healing, almost scar-free. Successful periodontal tissue regeneration requires addressing detrimental factors and adopting future strategies.
