Regulation mechanism of the specific surface area of alumina ceramic carriers with hierarchical porosity fabricated by powder bed fusion

Cunbao Huo et al.

Summary: Novel method of fabricating alumina ceramic catalyst carriers with high specific surface area and hierarchical porosity was proposed using powder bed fusion and impregnation process. The impact of SiO2 content and post sintering temperatures on mechanical properties, pore characteristics, and SSA were scientifically researched, resulting in ceramics with crush strength, high SSA, and porosity with multimodal distributions. Monolithic catalyst carriers with controllable porous structures were manufactured for industrial recycling and efficiency improvement.

Effect of Ni-coated WC reinforced particles on microstructure and mechanical properties of laser cladding Fe-Co duplex coating

Haorui Wang et al.

Summary: The Fe-Co duplex coating was deposited onto crystallizer copper plates surface using Nd:YAG laser cladding. The addition of Ni/WC facilitated the formation of new phases and solid solution strengthening, resulting in improved microhardness and wear resistance of the working layer. Incorporating Ni/WC is an attainable way to enhance the tribological properties of Co-based alloy coatings.

Composition-dependent solidification cracking of aluminum-silicon alloys during laser powder bed fusion

Holden Hyer et al.

Summary: The successful manufacturing of volumetrically dense engineering components free of solidification cracks by laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) has been demonstrated for Al-Si alloys such as AlSi10Mg and Al12Si. The study found cracking susceptibility in Al-Si alloys with 1.0 and 2.0 wt.% Si, attributed to relatively large magnitudes of vertical bar dT/df(S)(1/2)vertical bar. Si segregation at the intercellular boundaries and the formation of a cellular structure were observed, allowing for estimation of the cooling rate.
