Differentiated nomological networks of internalizing, externalizing, and the general factor of psychopathology ('p factor') in emerging adolescence in the ABCD study

Sarah J. Brislin et al.

Summary: This study found that p, INT, and EXT exhibit well-differentiated nomological networks that are interpretable in terms of neurocognition, impulsivity, fear/distress, and social adversity. These results support their validity as broad psychopathology liabilities.

Exploring the Factor Structure of the NIH Toolbox Cognition Battery in a Large Sample of 8-Year-Old Children in Aotearoa New Zealand

Denise Neumann et al.

Summary: The study aimed to determine the factor structure of NIH Toolbox Cognition Battery measures in a large diverse cohort of 8-year-old children in New Zealand. A three-dimensional factor structure was identified, with one crystallised cognition factor and two fluid cognition factors. While the model fit was excellent, factor reliability was low, and measurement invariance was confirmed only for child's gender. Further research is needed to explore the associations between cognitive abilities and demographics in the New Zealand context.

Childhood Cognitive Flexibility and Externalizing and Internalizing Behavior Problems: Examination of Prospective Bidirectional Associations

Irina Patwardhan et al.

Summary: The study found that cognitive flexibility at kindergarten entry was not associated with externalizing and internalizing problems by the end of first grade, but was directly related to lower levels of internalizing problems at subsequent assessments. Boys had lower cognitive flexibility and higher levels of behavior problems compared to girls at kindergarten entry, but did not differ in rates of change over time.
